The Butcher’s Breakfast was a next-level English breakfast — honestly, I think it was the best I’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I shared that and the Hashbrown Florentine, and both were absolutely delicious and perfectly executed.
The Butcher’s Breakfast: All the meat was spot-on — nothing underdone. I especially loved the pork belly; my girlfriend is Filipino, and it really reminded her of 'tocino' from home. The hash browns, mushrooms, tomato and halloumi were all cooked beautifully. I’m not usually a fan of halloumi or tomato in a cooked breakfast, but the tomato had a lovely char and was properly seasoned, and the halloumi added a great flavour without being rubbery. I also normally enjoy beans plain, but the chorizo took them to another level — I’ll have to try that next time I make beans on toast or a jacket potato!
Hash-brown Florentine: A lighter, yet equally delightful dish. The poached eggs and hash-brown were cooked to perfection. Swapping bread for a hashbrown was inspired - I really enjoyed that for this particular dish. The herby hollandaise was rich and creamy, and the feta added a salty, cheesy taste that cut through the creaminess.
Coffee: Excellent too. I wish I’d taken photos — this really was a spectacular cooked breakfast. I’ll be back every time I’m...
Read moreA fantastic independent coffee shop with amazing service and a cool vibe!
I recently visited Wayland's Yard in Birmingham city centre and had such a wonderful experience. The two waitresses were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they didn't mind discussing my home coffee machine with me, which I really appreciated. I bought the Burundi coffee beans, and to my surprise, they even offered to grind them for my espresso machine! I regularly visit independent coffee shops, but this is the first time anyone has offered to do that. It was such a thoughtful and helpful gesture. The cafe itself is spacious and has a modern, chilled-out vibe. The seating, with its sleek tiled tabletops and simple chairs, gives it a clean and minimalist feel. The prices are very decent, and they have a great variety of desserts on display to accompany the hot drinks. I noticed they had everything from brownies and carrot cake to salted caramel crispie bars and an "Old School Rocky Road." There's something for every sweet tooth! The location is perfect, and it's clear it attracts a good range of coffee enthusiasts. If you're in the area and looking for a top-notch coffee shop, Wayland's Yard is definitely one...
Read moreCompletely disappointed. Found a table quickly but it was not easy using the QR code to find a quick route to specify dietary requirements in our order so we ordered at the till. Considering it wasn’t particularly busy we were disappointed to wait 40 minutes for our food. When it came out, we considered it very poor value for money. I am coeliac so ordered gluten-free option. I had ordered avocado/poached eggs/side order of house beans. A tiny slice of bread that was not even remotely toasted was delivered to the table after a 40 minute wait, smothered in more avocado than it could cope with with two cold poached eggs on top. Served on a cold plate along with a tepid mouthful-size portion of beans. As it was so cold I sent it back requesting an extra slice of bread and both slices to be properly toasted. 10 minutes later, just as my friend was finishing his brunch, mine was delivered. We will not be visiting again. This is not a patch on the Wayland’s Yard we regularly visit in Worcester which has a great atmosphere, great service and great food. My advice is go...
