Within my short existence of life, I have somehow been to many a pub. Some are good, others are semi-decent and then there are others who fall short of the bar due to soggy onion rings amongst other failings. Yet, there is a certain magical quality that The Shakespeare possess which draws me back every so often.
If you have had the opportunity to attend during the cold evenings, when the air has a cold chill and all you want to do is keep cosy indoors, then drop in the Shakespeare. The staff are friendly, their couch is comfy and the lit candles bestow a warm, fuzzy quality to your friends and the room (no, this is not due to intoxication).
After excessive indulgence in whapping wharf’s multi-cultural delights, there is something quite pleasant about returning to ye old English. Sadly I can only comment about their drinks and atmosphere (which is beyond satisfactory), as I only seem to drop in when the kitchen is closed. But one day I will unlock the achievement of (fine)dining.

Read moreSat at a table with my 2 friends after asking if it's OK. 40 min. later a member of staff came and said the table is now reserved and we have to move elsewhere within 30 min. 20 min. later we were asked to move as the other customers came earlier than expected. We decided to leave and not come back again. Very rude service and impossible to ask us to move places once we took an unreserved table.
Edit as a reply to owners/managers reply: It was not these days. It was on the 20th of December. The plan was to meet my friends and have plenty of drinks during the evening. Unfortunately, we were asked to move when we specifically asked if it's alright to use this exact table during the whole evening. It was at the ground floor, opposite the back bar. First table on the right as you go in. Once people take a seat at an unreserved table, in a pub, you should not be pushing them around the pub. Even if it was a restaurant, I would accept a 3 hour use...

I entered in the middle and got my beers from Carma brewery( pardon me if I misspell. They have a cool concept of stayinpub. Check it out), for they don't serve food tonight.
The quiz host, who I assume was the manager, helped get a table when the junior bartender and the only lady staff focused on “ unable to accept a new client on quiz night.”
The only lady staff is not that friendly for her delivery of no food service and cleaning up after the beer glass slid and dropped from the table.
This is a good spot for locals to do quiz night with friends. But I...
