I absolutely love the River Grille! It’s got such a lovely vibe to it and it’s never been particularly rammed whenever we’ve been. Even with guests, it’s still not loud and there’s calming music playing in the background. The setting is so lovely with plenty of light and a nice view of the harbour side.

In terms of food, we had the Sunday lunch and most of us had 1 course, with one having the 2 course option. I had the beef as well as some of my family members and another having chicken - WOW! The beef was cooked rare and was perfect, so juicy and bursting with flavour. The portions are very generous too - my mam had half a chicken! All the trimmings are gorgeous too with lovely seasoning that isn’t just overwhelmed with garlic, and all cooked to perfection. You get the meat and Yorkshire separate on a plate and then can just add on your trimmings when brought to the table.

Cauliflower cheese is included in the roast price as well and they are happy to bring you extras free of charge. In terms of value for money, 1 course (just the main) was £23 which is brilliant for what you get and the quality. Even those who chose the two course meal only paid £29 and the dessert was massive! The food also came out in a decent time which was great, and we had some cocktails too which were very tasty (although a bit expensive at £12).

The service was excellent with really friendly and attentive servers. They would check on us regularly and got us everything we needed. Shoutout to Jerome and Joe who were our servers today!

My family were very impressed and it honestly made their day, will definitely be coming back....

Visited for afternoon tea; The River Grille has a small selection of teas, I had the breakfast blend (odd for an afternoon tea but perfectly serviceable) and my wife had an Earl Grey (Clipper brand). Food arrived and the usual selection of finger sandwiches (cucumber and cream cheese on white, ham and mustard on wholemeal, egg mayo on white and an open smoked salmon on rye) was accompanied by a plate of scones (plain and fruit) with generous amounts of clotted cream and jam, and a plate of small cakes. The sandwiches were delicious and we requested a couple of extra plates of those. Scones were light with plenty of fruit in the fruit one. Small cakes were a little disappointing, quite sharp sweetness with limited, one-dimensional flavours. The service was very good, we were well attended and all of our requests were dutifully obliged. This would have been a 4-star experience but for the bill. The afternoon tea is billed at £20 per person which we thought was well priced, except we were charged for the extra plates of sandwiches and a 10% service charge so it ended up costing £60.50 for two people. Whilst an "optional" service charge is customary and mentioned in the small print on the menu (although why the food can't just be more expensive and the staff paid a living wage eludes me) the extra charge for additional plates is not. I've never come across an afternoon tea that does this and it seems strange to break with this fundamental understanding and not mention it anywhere. Why not just charge £30 and not include the...

Today myself and my sister had a fantastic sunday lunch where Vanessa and Nicole took care of us from start to finish. I cannot thank them enough for their service it was some of the best i have recieved anywhere.

We were pleasantly shocked at the quality of food and the incredible atmosphere created with the live piano player and cannot believe this place was not fully booked up.

There was an incredibly rude lady on a table for 3 who spend her whole meal complaining about how she had to reach for potato's and how heo potatoes were too crispy. We felt incredibly sorry for her family having to know such a Karen like her. She was incredibly entitled and rude to the service staff and her complaints were invalid and frankly embarrassing. She even felt a discount on her meal was not fair which frankly she didnt deserve. It was in no way the restraunts fault and should not reflect on them

Although the price being slightly higher than other venues may put you off this is represented in the quality of the staff, service, food and location. The portion sizes were also generous and presented well. We both felt it was one of the best sunday dinners we have experienced in years and iwill be returning with my husband to be in the future even though i am far from a local.

Thankyou again for a...
