China Royal Restaurant — Restaurant in Chichester

DONT GO. This restaurant is clearly limiting and controlling all food, drinks and the atmosphere in order for you to eat less and not wanting you to feel welcome and relaxed in the hope you don't stay to long.

Rude staff, dirty carpet, mould on walls by toilets, dated decor, over priced drinks, long waits inbetween servings, small potion sizes, lack of meat in meat dishes, most dishes contained a spicy kick, staff making you feel like an inconvenience in the hope you don't ask for more food, air con came on at around 8 and turned the whole place into an igloo.

I went with a group of old friends and we had noticed straight away any staff member that dealt with us was very rude and unhappy. During the meal they would say "wait" about 7 times when we wanted to ask them something or get their attention. We had to wait a along time inbetween each servings before asking for more and getting their attention was very hard work. At know point did anyone come to ask us if we were enjoying the food during eating.

When the food came out and was pretty much instant which was good but the portion size was very small and lacked meat content. Most food from the mains had a spicy kick to them, so when we asked to have less spice and they just said "no this is the way we do". Again once we had taken 5/10 mins to eat it all, yep another long wait before ordering more food. Staff only came to tables on their terms and when they are ready to do so.

Theirs is also a very cheeky 10% service charge on the bill that you have to pay which is real kick in the teeth after a bad experience. Drinks are so expensive with a lack of choice. My mate had two large pepsi. These were about the same price of a decent meal near my local Chinese take away lol crazy.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Had a horrible experience here which is a shame as used to love going to this restaurant don't know whats happened to it. Everything tastes awful apart from the duck pancakes so for the first time in my life as I don't ever complain unless I have to and me and my partner had not touch 4 of the 5 dishes we ordered and the plates still looked full (we had barely two mouthfuls before knowing it didn't taste right) , I said if there was anyway to take money off the bill as the food was awful and we could not eat it and it wasn't even hot coming out the kitchen either. Was told everyone else likes it so must be us, said we'll Im still not happy to pay almost £60 for food I have not touched or eaten, we were then offered 10% off the bill which apparently worked out to £3 off the bill. Found this so unprofessional as that barely covered the cost of a drink. Found the staff to be very rude when we said we weren't happy with the order but I guess we should of known when they sat us down with stail prawn crackers, that when we asked the waitress she told us "no can't be stail they fresh today" two seconds after saying that tells us "oh well might be because they've been left open for very long time". So I would highly recommend that you save your money and just get a Chinese takeaway you get more for your money and will have a more enjoyable experience then...

Without doubt the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Staff were rude and unhelpful, other than the man who gave us our bill, he was very pleasant, but all else was so bad. I wanted to get the fixed priced menu, but it is apparently a minimum of 2 people, But why? ...I tell you why so it cost more money and so you spend more instead of two people sharing the dishes ordered. So I ordered off the only other menu. The prices nearly gave me a heart attack! Plain chow mein nearly £6 for a portion so small a child would still be hungry. I was actually really embarrassed, I felt like I was being totally mugged off. The sizzling beef in black bean sauce was quite a song and dance when it came out, and I did try to enjoy it but the green peppers and almost raw onion made it very strong and peppery, never experienced that with Chinese ever before. Cant comment on any other food as rude woman said I quote ”eat what you order then order more” It was a pretty dire meal out. Do yourself a big favour and avoid this dreadful establishment. Gives real kind hardworking Asian takeaways and restaurants a bad name. Its certainly a one...
