I don't write bad reviews unless something has annoyed me, and unfortunately several things have annoyed me here.
It was a very hot day and I was pleasantly surprised how cool it was in there on a Monday lunch at 1pm. There was one other table of 2 inside. The waitress who greeted us said we could choose our table. My partner sat down at a table and as we were sitting the waitress asked "Is it just the 2 of you?" I said yes and she replied "This is a table for 4 people". I asked "Is that not ok?" and another waitress said it's fine. No other tables came in for the 1.5hr duration we were there. Why say we can sit at any table if we cant sit at any table?
Chairs are very, very comfy, I have to say. The menu is so hard to read though. The item is easy enough but the description is absolutely tiny (about 3mm) so my partner gave up and said to order for her too.
Food came out quick. Presentation was nice, but it was all quite disappointing to be honest. The tofu starter was way too rich but we cut through it with pickled ginger and wasabi from other dishes. Salmon and tuna sashimi's were ok. I've eaten a lot of sashimi in my life. It just didn't hit the spot for whatever reason.
We also had spicy tuna roll and the mango salmon roll. They were both really bland apart from the abundance of caviar. Unfortunately the rice was incredibly overcooked to the point I was left with a chewy ball of rice in my mouth.
Annoyingly, and this is the main reason I write this review, a waitress came to clear our plates as soon as we had downed sticks with 2 roll pieces left. We said we hadn't finished. Chatted for a minute and then my partner ate another piece and as she was chewing another (!) waitress came and asked if we were finished. My partner, who is usually mild mannered, got a bit annoyed and while she was covering her mouth said "Can you give me a minute please?" and the waitress said "Sure" but then proceeded to clear the empty plates from the table.
We were laughing about how absurd the whole thing was, and I hope they overheard.
The pickled vegetable side dish was very nice, and the wasabi was pretty good. There was lots of wasabi...

Walked in, good thing there was a table for us. My colleagues ate there 3x already and it was my first time They started with mocktails while I had the apple cocktail. It was all refreshing and a perfect winding down drink😬 My colleagues swore their korean chicken bao bun was good that we ordered 2 servings - each serving has 2 bao buns. They had 1 bao bun whilst I had 2 as it was my first time. The bao bun was soft (some bits hard as I think not steamed long enough) the chicken was battered and seasoned well. The chicken was in a bed of salad and 2 sauces.
Mains were donburis. 2 of us had eel, 1 tempura.
Right, so the rice - hands down legit short grain rice - perfectly cooked. Eel, I wish there were more. Fileted but saw some bones (edible), sauce was enough and my rice was not drowned in so much sauce. Eel was tender and skin gave so much flavor.
Tempura - not everything served was ebi tempura... there were squash, pepper, carrot, salmon and crabstick tempura. All on top of the perfect rice.
Donburis were served with their lovely miso soup.
Paid and walked home. The staff was very attentive and nice. Cosy feels and so near the town centre too. Loo ✅️ Credit card ✅️ Ambiance...
