I visited today, on my 30 minute break for food and to chill with friends. I was met by the most pretentious tw@ I've ever met, Alex, at the bar. I said I was outside and would return on 15 minutes. You'll notice him immediately as the grumpy, blonde afro'd bartender.I ordered food, which he made me feel like I was doing him a dis-service. I asked how long the cover would take, and he continued to make me feel like I was being weird for asking.
After about 30 minutes of waiting and watching this caustic wasteman causally abuse good customers and stress out about having to manage a queue of four people on a weekday afternoon, I went to find out myself what was going on with my order. I then find the "chef" is busy dossing around in the garden and hadn't even acknowledge the order or showed any real preparedness to cook. I asked for a refund and was short changed but £1 and I left to return to work hungry and stressed. I would have at one point recommended this venue for alternatives as the rest of the bat staff are very friendly and at least try to be as professional...
Read moreI've only visited this pub once, for the Komedy Krackers comedy night. It's a rock-themed place that has lots of live performances and reminded me its vibe of Shrewsbury's Yorkshire House, one of my favourites. We had beefburgers from the menu that were surprisingly good and the beer was definitely well kept with an interesting range.
The comedy was great fun. There were more performers than punters in the room and it was mainly very new performers with a few more seasoned comics in the second half trying out new stuff. Go with an open mind and low expectations and you could be pleasantly surprised. Expect Richard Pryor or Victoria Wood and you will be disappointed. The evening is hosted by the remarkable Sara Mason who must be a Brighton Institution in her own right.
I don't make it to Sussex very often but when I do I think I'll be back to the Caroline of Brunswick and, if the timing is right, to...
Read moreBasically the only great metal/rock rub in Brighton. However, not just deathcore blasting all day: expect a rich tapesty of great music from all genres and no judgement aboute your own tunes on the jukebox. I live in Southwick but consider it my local. For all the old school Brightonians, now the Hob Goblin/Pav Tav/Gloucester etc. have all gone/changed, this is a singular refuge from the brutish realities of today.
The staff, from management to bar to security, are, for my money, the solidest, friendliest, no-nonsense people around. If you find them not to your taste, I would suggest having a good look in the mirror.
LGBTQIA+ friendly and you can bring your dog in.
It's got a beer garden and has gigs and comedy.
I go to read and have great chats with people.
The prices are reasonable (rare for this time and place)
If you're not sold, then I don't know what your buying but...
