So it was the first time since the Pub/Inn had been refurbished that we had eaten here, so expectations were high, the unknown if the chef was good or bad.
There was four of us and yes we did make a reservation for a table for 7 pm, on arrival we were asked if we were eating, if so the parking would be taken into account and refunded at the end when you pay your bill, we had been told about the parking so we parked just around the corner, no issues at all. The reason for the parking fee is that people park their car and go off for a walk, so this leaves no spaces for the people who would like to use the parking for the pub.
Ok back to the food and service, we went on a Thursday which is a grill and steak night. The service was very good at the bar, we were served straight away without any issues, we sat outside for a while then went in for our food, we sat at our table which was a good size for 4 adults.
The waiter came over took our order. The starters arrive 10min later, all piping hot (the ones that should be hot) and all was what was asked for. The starters consisted of a sharing Antipasti dish, a Chicken & Chorizo Skewer and finally a Panko Crumbed Calamari Strip dish. We had eaten the starters, the waiter cleared our plates and asked if all was ok, our mains arrived again about 10 min later, so that was ok for us, 3 meals arrived together but one was running late by 5 min and then the surf side was not on the plate but arrived shortly after.
The food was very good, three of us had steaks and one had scampi, all the steaks were cooked to perfection, the fat had been trimmed and great bar marks from the grill were on all the steaks, and as we know it gives great flavour, The scampi was cooked ok as well, well what can you say about frozen scampi, lol.
Overall, will we go back, yes we will and advise friends about our meal, as we know, word of mouth is greater than any...
Read moreThe outside of the pub is one of London Road’s more colourful contributions. Since Indigo took over the Hobgoblin Brighton it's had an elaborate and eye catching graffiti mural of some description which is an indication of the young punters it’s aimed at.
From the dusky neutrality of the inside, you enter the neon jungle that is the back garden. There must be 12 or 13 tables of various sizes, painted an assortment of bright primary colours and laid out across a massive astroturfed space. Many of these are in their own heated booths, and those that aren’t are mostly covered by retractable rain covers. Music is pumped out through speakers and the garden also plays host to some mega garden parties with live DJs according to their socials pages.
There are a decent number of taps here, even if beers on offer are weighted towards mass-produced brands – lagers like Pravha and Madrí. ‘Craft’ options include Blue Moon, Neck Oil IPA and Gamma Ray APA though they have been known to stock local craft brands such as Gun Brewery and 360.
There's a full review of my visit here and lots more pubs on...
Read moreNot only was I pleasantly surprised by both the shops decor and the warm smiles of the lovely staff, but I was amazed by the wide selection and variety of wonderful musical instruments (particularly in the ‘Folk’ Category, of which I am a particularly zealous disciple). As a Sussex Morriser, I of course have a penchant for DG Melodeons, and I as I entered the shop for the first time I was greeted by the jolly tinkles of La Fete Du Village (A Sussex tune of Breton Origins). A good start - I think so! I was helped by two lovely shop assistants? I believe there names were Lewis and Lizzy? Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Just what I expect from a. Shop of this ilk. I left the shop with a collection of small keepsakes, including a Clark’s Tin Whistle, a toy Bohran for my grandchildren, and a book of Mallys Sussex Morris tunes. An all together grand day out (topped off by a well needed lie down on the beach and a 99...
