I rarely write negative reviews, but From the moment the food arrived, it was clear that flavor was not a priority. Everything we ordered—from the mushroom starter to the main course—was under-seasoned, lacking any real depth or character. The ingredients tasted like they’d come straight from a freezer and hadn’t been properly introduced to a spice rack. Even the simplest dishes, like the pasta, managed to be both overcooked and underwhelming. Service was polite but indifferent, which mirrored the food: functional, but with no real warmth or passion. They do offer a gluten-free menu, which might seem like a plus—unfortunately, it’s not one I’d recommend. The gluten-free options were just as bland as everything else, with no creativity or attention to texture or flavor. The drinks were the best part of the experience but still nothing to write home about With so many great dining options available, I can’t see myself returning. It’s one thing to serve simple food—it’s another to serve food that’s simply dull.

Ooh this was lovely! Great that this place had a gluten free menu too! We stayed a night in York, never having done so before and was a bit stumped for tea. So we just wandered through the streets and came across D'vine on Swinegate. It put us off initially as there was nobody else dining and even when we left there was only one other table in, but to be fair it was the Monday of the first week back to school for kids and parents. Inside was slightly dimmed lighting which gave a cosy romantic feel. We enjoyed their choice of music. Everything was clean and tidy. They have clear glass panels with nice black designs on separating various areas, which I particularly liked. The food a starter (deep fried Brie with a jam and a sourdough breads) for hubby gluten free (creamy mushrooms with breads) our mains were the same spaghetti in a creamy sauce with chicken and mushrooms, only hubbys was gluten free. The food was all hot and fresh. Staff were lovely.

We were stopping in York for a couple of nights, and booked this restaurant for dinner and the menu looked great. We were greeted and sat down straight away into a semi-full restaurant. Our drinks order was taken and these arrived swiftly. We opted for the three course set menu (three courses for £25, it's hard to say no to that!). All three courses were amazing, I couldn't criticize it at all. Portion sizes were very generous and food tasted great. Our server was amazing and checked back on us, was friendly and professional, and made for a really pleasant experience. The optional service charge wasn't a problem (I can see someone complained in a previous review) as the staff really deserved every penny - in fact I left them extra too for their outstanding service! 10/10 amazing food, amazing service, will definitely return if back in York and recommend to anyone visiting.

Very average overpriced food Below average service .The food lacks taste, presentation, it’s definitely not authentic Italian food. My friend ordered the steak and it came with chips. No sauces, no veg, , no garnish salad/dressing, no mushroom. Literally meat and chips.Iv never seen that at a restaurant unless it’s come form the kids menu. I ordered the arancini which tasted like they were from the frozen section of Iceland with tinned /jar tomato sauce. I got a pizza which had a bland tomato to base, no flavour and the tiniest amount of topping.I asked for garlic when ordering which they failed to do. The restaurant it’s self had a good atmosphere and decor . Which I think is what people go there for and must not be bothered about the food being good. The waitresses were not accommodating. Didn’t have much knowledge about the menu. Thought our dinner they did not ask us if our food was ok, if we needed anything, or any more drinks. Nothing.

Then at the end they added a service charge on the bill. Not sure why when they didn’t provide a service . Our table was split into two. The other table paid the charge . And my table didn’t.

On our way out the waitress said by to everyone on that table and no one from my table! petty and rude. Maybe if they did their jobs properly they would have got their self...

The vegan options were very poor, especially the starter. It was literally pieces of lettuce with mushrooms and onion thrown on top, not a seasoning in sight. How that can be served as a starter is beyond me.

It's misleading when they say they have a separate vegan menu, but then the only vegan main, apart from a salad, is a burger. They had no vegan cheese, vegan butter, or vegan milk. I had to have a black coffee. Having vegan dairy products is the bare minimum, they're so easily supplied these days.

What Italian restaurant offering vegan options doesn't offer egg free pasta, or vegan cheese? It was poor.

My parents who aren't vegan had pasta and risotto, which they said were nice, but then they had Irish coffees, which were cold. They were offered a replacement with separate cream that they could pour on themselves, but surely it's down to the staff to do this as we are paying for their services, not to do things ourselves?

The restaurant is gorgeous, great atmosphere, reasonably priced, food average, vegan food, very sub par.

I'd rather they not cater towards vegans at all, if they can't be bothered to put any effort in. Shoving a couple of thoughtless vegan dishes on the menu doesn't do the job I'm afraid.

Non vegans: it's fine, there's certainly nicer but it does the job

Vegans:...

I came here last night for a meal with my work team. There was around 13/14 of us in total, we had pre booked the table about 1-2 weeks in advance, but when we arrived the staff seemed a bit unsure of the booking. For a small restaurant this was a relatively large booking for midweek and so they should/could have been more prepared. The table we were sat at was set up with some tables attached to a booth, consequently there was not enough space for all of us to sit, which meant some of us were a little squashed. If the staff had thought about it logically, the tables should have been set out with the running across the middle of the restaurant with a space for each of us to sit individually. We had 2 drinks menus for the whole group but a large stack of food menus, although we had already arranged what we were eating. There was no table service for the drinks, we had to go up to the bar, which for those of us squashed into the booth (myself included) made getting out difficult and inconvenient. The pizza I had was good, but not great. Certainly not good enough for me to return, especially with the lack of service we received. The staff received a relatively large tip from the whole group which some of us feel a little annoyed by, given that some of us don't think the service recieved...
