Visited yesterday based on the rating/photos. Here's some feedback I think you'd benefit from..
The three stars are for the place itself, which is a nice space. The coffee itself was disappointing, given that the place clearly seems to be aiming higher than your average cafe. Flat white ordered. No 'coffee art', just an accidentally heart-shaped blob on top, which anyone could pull off. The reason I mention this is not because it's aesthetically important, but because that first impression says a lot. A proper-looking coffee says that the milk has been prepared and poured properly- you can tell if the milk is consistent throughout or if it's just a bit creamier on top and then watery below the surface. The way the milk is poured obviously shows how well trained the barista is and represents the attitude of the place.
Now, some people might not mind, some people might not notice this sort of thing, are happy to slurp any old coffee down. But you can't tell who will mind and who won't. And surely you, the barista, minds what you're serving up? You should always be serving up coffees the best they can be, and this review is to let you know that they can be and need to be better. I've worked as a barista. Your coffee determines whether people come back or not and therefore how much money goes in the till, and whether you in turn can actually earn a wage there. Maybe I was there on an off-day, maybe the usual barista was off sick or something. Either way, some training is needed.
My vegan friend ordered an oat FW and it wasn't till he started drinking it that he realised it wasn't oat.. it was the only coffee on order too, so what's the excuse there? Also there was no soap in the toilet. I had to put some water in the bottle to get the last bit out. Can't someone just stick their head in and check it at the start of the day? Or do you all assume it's someone else's responsibility? Do staff not wash their hands after using the loo? You might use the sink behind the counter, but what are customers to do? You might say I should have told you- shouldn't have to. Sanitizer dispenser empty or not working.
Not good enough, not when there are plenty other cafes...
Read moreAsked for bacon on toast and coffee, coffee arrived some time before the bacon on toast came. Result cold coffee! I would have thought it normal to have coffee after or at least the same time as the toast. When I mentioned this all I got was a quick ‘sorry’ (maybe they hope people will buy an extra coffee if they bring it before the food) The bacon came on one slice of thick what looked sourdough bread. Not very easy to eat without a knife and fork, we were only given a knife. My partner had to leave half the bread due to it being to thick around the crust. Bacon also a bit under done. Disappointed 02/03 approx 11:30 I would have thought it was normal to serve drinks after food, I have heard of something to eat and drink, never have I heard the phrase something to drink and eat. You do tend to get thirsty after eating. As far as the crusty Sourdough goes maybe you should have other options available. People do have different views and tastes. When asked if everything was ok I stated that I would have liked my coffee after my food. My partner prefers not to cause any fuss or bad feeling so didn’t complain even though she told me she didn’t like the...
Read moreWould like to address your recent review regarding a gentleman speaking to your staff in the shop. It was me and I would like to address each thing they brought up individually
My smirking was merely smiling as I was having a laugh with the wonderful staff here
The conversation regarding a flat white was about the quantity of milk to put in the jug before steaming and nothing about the making of the drink
The comments on her left handedness was about how either of us would struggle to best explain how to hold the jug whilst steaming the milk as me and the member of staff training her are both right handed
I can only apologise for perhaps the volume with which I speak at in what is usually a quiet and lovely environment, but the conversation went nothing like how you describe and frankly the coffee...
