Great Eastern Brighton — Restaurant in England

I really wanted to do 5 stars but took it down to 4 ONLY because of limited car parking!!!! Having just been for a hospital checkup I called in on my way home, never having been in there before, for lunch. I'm old school and still a little uncertain of a woman walking into a pub on her own ....I needn't have worried ..I had the loveliest of greetings from the 'barman'.... Explaining clearly the setup....Once settled at my table I could not have asked for better service at all....my drink was brought promptly....food ordered and delivered quickly and hot..... and dessert arrived after main course... Without having to wait too long. All the time I was there this young man.... apparently he's waiting to go into the navy....and what a credit he will be.... Was on the ball making sure whoever came in...or who needed serving was attended to asap. The menu has various priced meals...and 2 and 3 course offers...a wide choice on the menu....

The Monday to Friday lunchtime special has a great choice of meals and portions are more than sufficient. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

What spoiled our enjoyment was the lasagne and hunters chicken were both served in enamel dishes which wouldn't have been a problem if they hadn't been delivered with chips out of them both on the edges and at the bottom. I was worried when got to bottom of dish to find some enamel missing, I was just hoping it hadn't been in the food. I'm sure there wasn't any bits in the food but there is no way for the staff to know that no further chips had come off during the cooking process. It was perhaps as well the HSE man visiting didn't see these. We were going to stay for a 2nd drink but after waiting a good while at the bar with no staff in attendance, we just left. We would visit again as the food was lovely, with pleasant and comfortable...

Normally a great pub, I’ve been living in Brighton for a few years and I’ve been going very regularly since I moved here. I went last night with a few friends and upon sitting down, a member of staff stormed to our table and very rudely asked for all of our ID’s as if we were 15 year olds in a Wetherspoons. This alone would have been fine, but every time I went to the bar to order, the three members of staff were talking to each other, did everything they could to not serve me and generally had a rude demeanour. I’ve never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a pub before 😔 It really is a shame because I love the pub normally, it always has great music and is decorated gorgeously.
