Went here based on the reviews. Genuinely baffled why such high ratings. Being fair, we visited on a Saturday lunchtime so it was busy. We queued and queued.
On arrival we ordered two gluten free sandwiches. Cleaned down area and everything seemed to be impressive. However we had to wait and wait for our sandwiches so observing the practices worried me. the person on the till was handling money then handling the baguettes with no hand washing in the 15 minutes we were there. Wiping hands on visibly dirty aprons and handling sandwiches. As we'd declared an allergy I was shocked that the preparation involved dipping one knife into multiple jars. One being mustard which is an allergen and then it was put straight into another pinkish sauce jar, as one example of serious cross contamination. The knife wasn't even wiped with a towel. Hands were used to touch the different sandwich fillings but no hand washing in between. I know it's busy but be honest you can't cater for allergies. I'm lucky as mustard isn't one of mine but if it was is have refused the sandwiches.
Overall the sandwiches were dry. One was nice but mine was so stingy with fillings and it cost over £5.00. there was literally two tiny slices of tomato and even less mozerella. After waiting ages and costing over £20 for two sandwiches, two biscuits and two drinks, i feel it was very over priced.
Maybe we got unlucky but I certainly...
Read moreI've lived in the lake district for 33 years and usually will go to this place for food when in Keswick. I certainly won't again. A prawn sandwich was priced at £5.60 I thought that's a bit steep but it is Keswick and prices have gone up so fair enough. No sliced white bread available but again fair enough so paid an extra 25p for some artisan bread (bit weird but I guess that's tourism) I'm then asked if I want salad, I said yes lettuce toms and cucumber. Went to pay what should have been £5.85 and was asked to pay £6.30 haha it's a prawn sandwich. The server said yes we charge for 45p for salad. Needless to say I left the sandwich and went next door. Who charges for salad on a sarnie and at least if you do mention this when asking if you want salad. Won't...
Read moreJan & Barry manned the shop, delivered food locally each day and were absolute Stoics from 22 March 2020 onwards.
The town of Keswick is proud of those who stayed behind and did not close, which of course was the easy option during lockdown.
Neither Jan nor Barry chose to take the government's furlough payments, instead kept the town fed and watered. For that alone we need to remember where our loyalties lie both now in June 2020 and in the coming months and years.
Lovey people, their staff are all back (writing as I am mid June) and firing on all cylinders, with lots of friendly banter each day.
I for one greatly appreciate their professional and unforced friendly service. They are a credit to this town. Food and coffee are absolutely...
