Went with other half. On the whole a lively place and I enjoyed it but I will never attend again.
I've never been made to feel so embarrassed at a restaurant before.
There was a run of events that, overall tarnished the experience, nothing too bad and I was going to thank the staff at the end for dealing with them until I got to the till.
My gf ordered one of the meals and, it turned out, it was no longer on the menu. She decided to quickly order the soup.
When it arrived it had coriander on top, which she was allergic to, though there was no mention of it on the menu.
I went to the bar, apologised that we didn't specify at the start, and they took away her soup. Initially they offered to make another without coriander, but it turned out it was made with coriander paste too.
So, I had finished my food, and my gf now had to order a third dish - she went with the avocado on toast. The food, finally, was fine - but neither of us were enamoured by it (and she loves avocado).
I went to the till to pay and, literally a second before I was going to offer to, the woman said that because it had been made we'd have to pay for the soup.
I pointed out the chain of events, why the soup was a rushed order, that it wasn't specified, and that we just forgot. It's difficult enough dining with allergies and she has more pressing ones (milk). Doesn't help she has anxiety and would literally eat something, even if it made her ill, to avoid upsetting people.
My main gripe though was - paying for the soup had not been communicated to us at the mix up. If it had been, I'd have had the soup, and we'd all be happy. But they took it away instantly. We had paid for something and, technically, not received it - though they did leave the toast on the table.
I wouldn't recommend avoiding this place but I feel after the aggression I received at the end I couldn't not say anything.
Ultimately, I said due to this I would leave a 1 star review (I've given it two) after the incident. She said she's take the soup off, though I protested to pay for the soup as that was what she requested, and I was in no way trying to threaten her to make it cheaper - though she accused me of.
I didn't pay for the soup in the end. I didn't really care about paying for the £4 soup. But I do care about restaurants being better with how they support people...
Read moreWhen I review a place I rarely feel like awarding 5 stars because there's always a fault whether it's service, product, or facilities. I honestly cannot fault this establishment, every single visit has been great. I found this gem during a walk with a friend a while ago and have been a few times since. I normally would not have gone in as I always assumed it would be super pricey. My friend wanted to try it. I am so glad he did! I was wrong. The menu offers a great choice of brunch items, and in my opinion they are all reasonably priced (except one thing, I'll come to that). I am only a typical millennial on an average salary, so I am extremely budget conscious and love when I get value for money, and I feel that I mostly do here. The food is tasty, the quality of the ingredients are clearly up there, the presentation is unbelievably good, and if there was one thing I could complain about is the fact that they don't offer bottomless mimosas.... I'd be so, so happy if they did! £6.50 for a single mimosa is a little rich, it's mostly orange juice. Could do without the 1/4 strawberry if that would mean more of the drink itself. 100% my favorite cafe in Leicester now. Every member of staff I dealt with on each visit had a friendly attitude and the place is clean inside, not to mention I'm a fan of green so the plants hanging from the ceiling look stunning with the cozy warm lighting. It truly feels like a place you can come to relax and enjoy good food. A couple of photos to highlight today's choice: a mimosa and the Royale eggs (like Benedict but with Smoked Salmon instead of Ham (photo taken with permission from the staff). A little more hollandaise would've been great, I hope the staff is listening to customer feedback...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was my wife's birthday today & so I wanted to treat her by taking her for breakfast at somewhere nice. After reading many good reviews online I decided to take her to Kai-Brunch.
Place was nice & clean, atmosphere looked & felt good when we walked in however it took a very long time to place an order. Eye contact between customer and staff was almost non-existent, had to keep stopping & asking staff for sugar with hot drinks, table was wonky & had to move to another table after one became available. When we finally placed our order for food & drinks we had to pay immediately in full before receiving any items which was very odd. When I asked for a receipt for my payment for our order, I was advised we could not have a receipt right now but one can be emailed to us. This just did not sit comfortable with me, on any other day we would have left the place. As it was my wife's birthday we stayed.
Food took a long time to come after receiving our hot drinks by which time my coffee was cold. My wife ordered a tea and the wrong drink was presented to us so she had to wait a further 20 minutes at least on top of the current wait.
Once the food arrived it was really nice, however service and the time taken for the food to arrive since placing an order was not good at all, it was pretty poor. Personally, I thought the staff working at Kai's could do with some serious customer service training & the staff training needs to include attention to detail with engaging with...
