We were in Blackpool for the weekend primarily to visit the zoo and came to Lily’s on Saturday night hoping to eat in. It was very busy and there was a queue to the door. Not being local, we didn’t know how the system worked regarding tables and there was no signage to explain where to queue for a table versus takeaway and the whole place seemed very chaotic. We asked someone in the queue and they didn’t know either and we couldn’t get the staff behind the counter’s attention to ask so we just joined the single queue.
After around 15 minutes we got to the front of the queue and indicated our wish to sit in to which we were asked ‘do you have a table?’ which we didn’t as there was absolutely no signage to indicate that the etiquette was just to grab any available table and then to proceed to the back of the queue with your table number to order. We asked the man behind the counter if we could place our order, pay and then once we had a table to give him a nod to begin preparing our order. We were told this was not possible and we would have to wait an estimated 20 minutes for a table and then join the back of the queue to place our order. We decided not to wait and left so unfortunately didn't get to try the food, which did look lovely.
All in all the system is very inefficient and would not work if you were dining alone as someone would need to reserve the table while someone else went to place the order. All that would be required is a sign to explain how the system works and two separate lines, one for takeaway and one for table service. Had this been clearly explained we would have been more than willing to wait as I understand it was a busy evening. Our complaint is not about the wait but rather the lack of signage and explanation of how the system worked and the inefficient...
Read moreWhen you think of Blackpool, one thing immediately comes to mind—classic British fish and chips by the sea. That was exactly what I was craving during my visit, and nothing else would do. So, naturally, I asked the locals where to find the best fish and chips in town. Without hesitation, they pointed me to Lily’s Fish and Chips—and I’m so glad they did.
From the very first bite, I knew I was in for something special. The cod was beautifully cooked—crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. It practically melted in my mouth. The chips? Fresh, piping hot, and golden. So hot, in fact, I had to wait a moment before diving in (though the anticipation made it even better).
And let’s talk about the curry sauce and mushy peas—truly the best I’ve ever had. Fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. Every element of the meal hit the spot, completely satisfying the craving I had been looking forward to the entire drive up to Blackpool.
Was it worth the three-hour journey? Without a doubt. If you’re ever in Blackpool, do yourself a favour and head to Lily’s. It’s more than just a meal—it’s the proper seaside fish and chips experience done to perfection.
Highly recommended. Let me know what you think when you go—because you...
Read moreWas in Blackpool today for a new year eve fireworks. City centre and restaurant was busy.
The Gentleman WC was really messy. And my wife told that Lady WC was OK.
I just did order before I went to WC. Otherwise I would rather to leave premises.
Just after we had eaten the food I went to took photo of the WC but this time all was organised. (That's why I didn't scored you 1 star)
Yes we should accept that in extraordinary situations unfortunately this kind situations are happening.
The chips was a regular. Not bad but nothing special. Would score 4.
The coating of the fish was very oily and not tasty. Plain fried oily dough. Would score 2.
Therefore fishes were a regular or lower than regular taste. Would score 3.
I saw staff was busy and trying to catch the orders. Shop assistant who brought our food was not bothered to say at least ENJOY.
So this is my experience today. Their score from previous visitors is far from what I was expecting.
Will I go again? No... As I prefer to try new places (unless I find 5stars one). Why should I go there back when there is a plenty FISH and chips restaurants in the area to try...
So, it was not expensive and nice place to sit.
Normally I mostly score 5stars. But it was as I...
