Read moreVisited blackpool for two days and spent about 2.5 hours each day in Coral Island, which is hugely nostalgic for me, rode the Ghost Train 3 times, absolutely love that ride though some of the animatronics weren't currently working. Had many drinks in The Buccaneer (in the 18+ area) All the staff were lovely but one particular staff member on the bar (20 year old lady) was so sweet and friendly and made us feel right at home, the veggie burger was really good also! Had a little adult gamble while i was there 😂. All the staff in the main arcade are really approachable, friendly and so hard working, and i imagine it's not the easiest to keep a good attitude within the chaos of the venue, but super props to them. Went on the Pirate Flyer for the very first time which i thought just had views of the arcade but actually has some themed tunnels. Spent a good amount of time on the coin pushers until my hand smelt of 2 pences. This place is just so much fun. Only downside is i went overboard on the claw machines spent maybe £60 and didn't win a single plushie! And i am super good, i have a commercial machine at home, i spent probably £35 of this on the same machine continuously with no luck, the payout ratio must be pretty terrible honestly or i picked a poorly programmed machine. Previously have never had any issues leaving with a prize. That aside, had a great time, including food, drinks and arcades (not counting my adult gamble) spent maybe £250 over two evenings and had an absolute blast. The spirits are a little expensive, but not outrageous, and i believe the venue pays staff quite well/along with high operating costs so to be expected. Coral Island is the most immersive arcade in Blackpool (probably the UK) and well worth a...
Read moreI come to Blackpool at least a couple times every Yr and Coral Island is always improving its range of arcade games, that's all this review is about, sadly, I see I less love from their end, they have added a 3 car Outrun 2 SP machine which is a great machine, but it's clear no one at this arcade knows what they're doing, none are linked, although all three are together, the left and right machines have no sound coming out of them, but are English text on screen, the centre machine has sound but is Japanese text on screen, the brake is a bit dodgy on some of the seats meaning you can't drift.
Onto Time Crisis 5, the left gun isn't working properly, it fires but it doesn't hit anywhere on screen, leaving the 2 player experience null and void. Right gun works fine if you wanted to play single player.
Now, my favourite machine in Coral Island and yup, they've gone and ruined it! Cruis n Blast. They've moved a lot of arcade machines around this back end of the Yr and Blast is one of them, they're still next to each other but hey, now they're unlinked, so no more 2 player. What a disappointment. 1 player is still fine, but the game comes alive in 2 player.
They've done well with their selection of games but Coral Island could still be so much more, they need a selection of retro machines and they STILL have not even 1 single fighting game. Over half the place is gambling machines and everytime I walk through its always empty, they need to downsize this part and add more arcades. There's so many games they could add, if they don't start people will start going to dedicated places where people care about the machines in there, arcade places are on the rise again in the UK hope Coral...
