The guy who served us was absolutely lovely! I feel that the way he spoke to us & delivered the food & service, he should be working in a 5 star restaurant, not there! Unfortunately the decor completely let's the place down. It's so dated & smells pretty bad upstairs. Such a shame as they have a fantastic location & the seaviews from upstairs are beautiful! I do feel with abit of money invested, a freshen up with some paint & new flooring, this place could be something amazing! It's also very quiet in there, even with other customers talking, you do hear every word they are saying & so you feel you have to whisper to have abit of privacy. That being said, it is always busy in here when we've walked by, I think this is due to the low prices & great service. The food wasn't bad & you get alot for your money so I can't give it any lower than a 3 star :) Hope this review doesn't come across...

Popped in here for one of there specials advertised in the window of a teacake and a cuppa tea or coffee for £1.95 due to seating, waiting for ages to be served the waiter had missed us and went to other customers who had just came in through the door 10 minutes later. When the waiter did come over to take our order (Me and a Friend) he had stunk of smoke an he's gummy yellow hands placed a servet down on the table which we both had moved out of our reach and sight.

When the waiter had brought out our mugs of coffee, tea i had to call him back as my teacake was stone cold and was like a rock cake so i ordered a hot one not one that's been left on the side for christ knows how many times getting cold.

Will say we wont be coming hear again and after reading the reviews below i dont know how...

Probably the best Cafe in Ryde, serving honest British classics. We popped in for a hearty breakfast before our Ferry home and considering we were a group of 7, the service was really quick and spot on. The waiter was friendly and accommodating, who took a real pride in ensuring everything was spot on. The food was piping hot, with very generous portions and cooked to perfection - I can definitely recommend the £9 Long John Big Big Breakfast! Drinks were again plentiful and well priced. Its a shame the upstairs is no longer available for dining, however downstairs is available still. We last visited in 2006 and can honestly say the food is as good today, as it was then. Definitely one to visit while...

First visit here and like my previous reviews first impressions count. Four tired hungry people looking for a meal on Ryde Esplanade found Long John. Attracted first by the name, then the menu cover, the meal choices and spaces available we were quickly seated ready to begin our deliberations of what to eat. The menu has a very good range of meals to choose from, including fish choices, roasts, burgers and much more. Once ordered the meals arrived very quickly and we had excellent customer service. From research it seems Long John is a popular place with locals and tourists. The good was in very good portions, well cooked and very delicious. Thank you Long John for feeding the family so well.

A super little olde world cafe with a huge menu selection. They also have an extensive children's menu. Everything covered from a mean breakie to roast dinners, they even do jelly and icecream (which takes you back to to childhood birthday parties). You can get tea and scones at any time of the day. If you think school dinners then this is about the mark. Portions are plentiful and the hot choc drink is delicious. It is situated on the seafront so good views out to sea. Toilets are upstairs. Staff are friendly and helpful.

The food in this place is really good. Portion size was excellent and really good value for money. Me and my friend both had fish and chips. I'm gluten-free and dairy free, and mine was so good. Normally, gluten-free batter is not great, but this was so good I ate the lot. The restaurant got quite busy after a while with all age ages. Our waiter was really helpful when it came to my allergies and was able to help provide us with some information on what was about locally, as it was my first time on the island.
