Disgraceful treatment by staff!! REFUSED WATER

We were refused tap water by the bartender for no clear reason just told we ā€œseemed rude.ā€

The staff openly admitted they were withholding water on purpose because of how they perceived us.

Let’s be clear:

Even if we did seem rude which is subjective —that is not a legal reason to refuse/withhold free drinking water. Under UK licensing law, all licensed venues must provide water on request. This wasn’t a safety issue or drunkenness it was a power trip by staff who didn’t want to serve us because they didn’t like our vibe.

We weren’t asking for alcohol. We were trying to do the right thing by looking after a drunk friend

This statement is captured in the video we recorded, where she dismissively says, ā€œno one seems that drunk to me they should see a bouncer.ā€ That’s not how safety or customer care works. isn’t just unprofessional it’s dangerous! And I will be taking further action on the staff members.

I’ve reported the venue to the council and included the pictures of staff and all video as evidence. If this is how they treat people trying to act responsibly, they don’t deserve a licence and for sure the jobs of the 2 ladies.

These type of situations can lead to people potentially dying so this had to be taken very seriously to protect...

Aggressive, paranoid doorstaff. Having recently moved to the area saw that this might be an interesting place to check out.

I walked past the venue and the security staff said ā€œentrance to the sideā€. I approached what I thought was an entrance door and was asked by the security what I was doing. I said I thought I was at the entrance and he said ā€œno the entrance is hereā€, pointing into the railings.

I walked up to the railings, and the same man said ā€œ I don’t think I’ll be letting you in now.ā€ I asked why, and he said I ā€œdon’t have to say, but in my experience, someone looking around like you did (for the entrance…) shouldn’t be coming inā€. What an incredibly odd thing to say. I said I haven’t been drinking (I’m several years sober) and he said ā€œwell I’m not to know thatā€).

What the hell? This really ruined my night, I had done nothing to deserve such treatment and I’m very happy to tell the world how poor the doorstaff’s attitude is here. If you’re looking for somewhere welcome that is interested in actually attracting new patrons, don’t go to the Mash Tun.

Description of door staff: small, bearded man. Possibly should be tested for having consumed something that leave them a little...

Where to start? We used to love to mash tun, used to be buzzing and fun. Mrs Fitz next door was heaving and Mash tun completely empty we wondered why... Five staff behind the bar on a Monday night, one watching football, one did not put her phone down once in the two hours we were there. She was filming literally every second. I had to wait until she picked a filter before she turned around to serve us. Two of the staff were lovely and actually interrupted themselves to serve. The others were completely disinterested and just rude. Walking in felt like we were interrupting their fun night out. I don’t know what the wages/take ratio was but I can only imagine that TikToker is where all your profit is going to. Also, what is it with giving plastic glasses from 9pm onwards, definitely ne need for it. The toilets are absolutely vile, completely understandable on a busy weekend night but on a completely dead Monday night? Went out for a cigarette under the rain because the one empty covered table is for staff only as we were advised by the bouncer. We wouldn’t bother writing a review if it had been just a couple of bad points but what the f happened to...

Cool looking pub right next to the Brighton Dome. We popped in for a quick drink at the end of the day due to the interesting painting/mural on the outside. Inside it's a fairly typical pub, with a reasonable selection on tap. Unfortunately not a lot of choice for non alcoholic drinks, except soft drinks, and a small selection of non alcohol free drinks (I know, it is a pub, it's meant to be predominantly alcohol). Service was quick however and the music was the right vibe for the place. The main gripe is the toilets, flies everywhere and not particularly clean. I've been to a few pubs in Brighton and to be fair a lot of them are similar, so it's just one of those things you'll have to put up with.

This one double malibu coke cost £10.40. A truly extorisionate and unreasonable price for a drink that ended up being mostly made up of ice. The bar where not upfront about the price, and just demanded £10.40 after putting down in front of my girlfriend. Most people aren't expecting to pay that much, and most would pay just to get out of the awkward situation. I do not recommend this pub, there are cheaper pubs with a way nicer atmosphere. At the very least ask how much the drinks are before ordering, you'll be unpleasantly surprised.

Suzuki-San is the OG master. Such a legend of the industry. Huge selection of bottles at very reasonable prices. Despite being such a small bar, almost every time I’ve visited over the years, even on a random mid-week day, I’ve bumped into whisky people I know from all around the world. Tokyo has a lot of great whisky bars, but I always make time for Mash Tun and Aloha.
