A wonderful authentic Thai restaurant with a cosy atmosphere. Excellent, freshly made, high quality food. I strongly recommend getting a variety of dishes to share. They are incredibly accommodating for allergies, dietary requirements (e.g. vegan) and your personal dining preferences. We ordered a few different dishes and they were happy to bring them all out together so it was like a wonderful platter. Thai red and green curries are delicious without a doubt, but I'd recommend trying the massaman curry, tom kha (creamy, coconut milk-based) or tom yum soup (broth based) and the tempura. We also got vegan rice crackers which were pretty colours and were served with sweet chili sauce. I normally don't buy crackers but I'm really glad we got them!
I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants after coming back from Thailand and liking the food, and this one really hit the spot!
I'm very glad we went there, and I can't wait to go again. We got there when it opened at 5:30 on a Tuesday, and by 6:15 it was completely full, so I'd advise going earlier so you can get a table. But once again, it's just a testament to the taste and quality of the food. Don't eat something you've had before— I'd highly recommend you to take the opportunity to try some authentic...
Read moreWe were pleased that we booked Mona’s for the first night of our holiday. The place is quite small and cosy, so I’d say booking is advisable. Unfortunately they turned away some people because they were full … a good sign for those of us lucky to have a table (in that it appears to be very popular). The staff were very friendly and got a beer to my table quickly while I waited for the others in my party to arrive. I recommend a large Singha to get the party started. There were 4 of us. We had starters and main. I thought the vegetable tempura starter perhaps could have had the batter a tiny bit crisper and cooked a little longer. Overall, my brother’s verdict was “delicious” and I agreed. I had a red curry for my main. They gave me a choice of mild or spicy, and I chose spicy. What I enjoyed was that the sauce was full of flavour and the heat built over time. The sticky rice came in a little bamboo holder, which kept it nice and hot. This was a great idea meaning you could serve yourself the rice in small portions over the course of the meal, and each time it was a good temperature. All in all, an enjoyable dining experience. Thank you...
Read moreI was really looking fwd to trying this place and I'm sorry to say it was just very average. The staff were great & friendly, good service, but the food was lacking. If I use Thaise snackbar Amsterdam as a comparison, who's Thai fish cakes & range of condiments are sublime, Mona's fishcakes are lacking texture, range of flavour, structure, fresh herbs, that fresh fried hot crispiness yet rubbery feel when breaking, and almost seem like pre-packed bought ones. They were drab in every aspect & Thai fish cakes should be a classic. The Tom Yum soup was tasty & prawns good, but the stock was only luke warm & pretty dull in appearance (it didn't seem fresh). The squid tempura was alright but not characteristic Thai & I could have eaten calamari far better at most places (Thai or not Thai). The king pawn spring rolls were delicious, crispy & hot, but sadly unlike the rest of the meal. I often rate new places by having a selection of starters & did not have a main meal. The attention to detail of the starters was below what I was anticipating. I had 4 starters & a...
