Before the Peppermill changed hands, it was a place that I and other members of my family enjoyed visiting. We used to frequent it so regularly that we were known by face. The food used to be great, and there were a couple of meals that were my regular orders, and I could never fault them.
However, with the changing of hands, that is no longer the case. We've been a few times since the new owners have come in, and one of the most obvious changes is the complete collapse of good service. The other day, I visited with my mum and my nan, and the waitress somehow forgot to put in their orders, whilst simultaneously putting mine in. We were shocked at this lack of service. Later, we were told that it was because the café was short staffed - but at counting, there were eight members of staff in the front, not counting the itinerant staff who emerged from the back every now and then. What makes this mistake even worse is that the café was half-empty.
Prices have recently been increased, but the quality of the food does not reflect this. I had the homemade steak pie. Usually, I am given the choice of mashed potatoes or chips, but the choice was taken away from me and made by the server. I was served chips which were undercooked and chalky in the middle. The peas were hard, and hadn't been cooked enough. The pie was good, with large chunks of steak in it, and a rich gravy which helped me cope with the peas.
Overall, the Peppermill is a shadow of it's former self. Once a shining star of Blackpool's café scene, the Peppermill would have been better off shutting down than sold. The new owners, as can be seen by other reviews, have done harm to the café's previously...
Read moreThe best place to eat in Blackpool. It's all ways a good place when the locals use it too. We have visited many times as a couple, as a family, brought guests and even work outings. Its not only got a huge choice but everything fresh, hot and sizable portions that will leave you happy and full. It's also good for the pocket, fair prices that will allow a treat throughout our cost of living crisis.
It's got a charm, a sense of history and yet impeccably clean, well managed and fantastic attentive staff. It has a feel of a British restaurant on the Canary Islands but yet in the heart of Blackpool. A real must if your in the area. You wont be disappointed.
They are very accommodating and will provide space for older people, wheelchair users and large families.
The only negative is the toilets are up a great number of stairs and no disabled ones on the ground floor. However if you go down to the Rose and Crown pub they were kind enough to let us use the...
Read moreWent in at 11:50 on the 22nd December Was immediately greeted by a pleasant lady. immediately asked if we wanted drinks Ordered a coffee and latte was asked if we wanted warm or cold milk with the coffee. Received menus and then ordered Food was piping hot and received the food within 10 minutes Food was pleasant and a reasonable price. Would say however ordered a baguette and received a sub roll Don’t know if things are different in Blackpool Just wanted to let you know Would also suggest possibly getting better quality sausages for the breakfast The butter provided with the toast was liquified so don’t know how it’s being stored just something to bear in mind. However all in all the food was to a good standard given the price and was easily the most pleasant service I’ve had in a cafe in Blackpool Would absolutely...
