Where do I even start? I hate leaving bad reviews, especially since it might’ve just been a rough day for the staff, but my experience at Hive was seriously disappointing.
My partner and I were in Blackpool for a couple of days and thought we'd give Hive a try—it looked cool, and we were craving a good coffee. We showed up around 10:30am on a Sunday, so we knew it would be busy. When we got there, they told us there’d be about an hour wait for food. No big deal, we figured we’d have a coffee first anyway.
We ordered two flat whites, but they basically came out as lattes. Not ideal, but hey, the place was busy, so we let it slide. We ordered food around 11am and were reminded of the wait, which we were still okay with (50 minutes to an hour).
About 45 minutes in, some guy and his family were upset about their food and the guy actually stormed into the kitchen to yell at the chef. Totally uncalled for, especially since he’d already gotten a refund, so we were pretty confused.
After that drama, we were about 50 minutes into our wait and starting to get seriously hangry, but we kept waiting. We saw food being brought out, but nothing for us. After another 15 minutes, I finally approached one of the staff members. I felt bad after what had just happened, but by then we’d been waiting way too long.
The staff member apologized, mentioned they were short a chef, and said it’d be another 5 minutes. They offered us some free drinks (two oat flat whites that were actually a bit better this time).
Our food finally arrived at 12:36pm (after a 1 hour and 36 minute wait), and by then we were starving. But the food was such a letdown. The avocado was black, the portions were tiny—a spoonful of beans, a spoonful of mushrooms—and everything was drenched in oil. For a £10.50 vegan breakfast (plus 75p extra for toast), I expected way more. I’ve worked in hospitality, so I get that things can spiral out of control, but this place felt like a sinking ship from start to finish. I really hope it was just a one-off.
We left feeling pretty dissatisfied but thanked the...
Read moreHive is a great place to chill out. My favourite is White Hot Chocolate mmm indulgent and luxurious it is. I love it, I miss having cake with it but hoping i will have a chance to have it when all resumes back to normal.
The team is amazing. Let me introduce u to John (he is the key guy of Hive). Who has been relentlessly working in this LOCKDOWN phase serving the community. He has an amazing heart for the most vulnerable. Preparing 3 meals every day super quality stuff/no compromise on it at all. John has opened up his cafe to partner with the Blackpool Council ( Corona Kindness project) along with several Churches (Catherine &Greg are the key people to organise it) and Food Bank partnering together in the project. And all the incredibly amazing volunteers without them the project coukd have not been sustained so far.
Providing meals: cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner to those sheltered in various hotels who otherwise would be homeless and exposed to COVID-19.
It's an honour to be a part of the whole Corona Kindness project and a great privilege to serve the community in such time of need.

Read moreStopped here with 2 other adults and 4 children during our holidays as we found the concept appealing and were after fresh and healthy options for our lunch. All but one of us wanted vegan foods and saw on the menu they had a few options. Once we sat down and upon close inspection it appeared that most of what was marked as vegan was not! It contained cheese and honey. Our waiter was lovely and very confused but tried to help and be accommodating. I ordered an iced tea which I was looking forward to. It turned out to be cordial, and was served with a heavy hand so I didnt drink it as it was too sweet. They offered to add more water but still it was not iced tea and I couldn't drink it. My children ordered smoothies that were nice. My partner ordered a coffee which was served with a side of dog's hairs. By that point it had been too much and we just cancelled our order (which would have been salad leaves and a few other raw veggies for me for the original price of a full and exciting vegan labelled non vegan salad!) and left. Needless to say we don't recommend this place. The waiter apologised profusely but unfortunately he couldn't...
