Disappointing was not the word for it! Upon arriving at the restaurant we were greeted by a surly faced waiter who took an obvious and instant dislike to us (he was a ponytailed, skinny chap). He was blunt to us to the point of being rude, moved me out of his way by use of his elbow several times in order to take our order and orders from the table behind. When I tapped him in the shoulder to change my order he drew himself away from me prepelled by some inhuman urge to be offended and gave me possible the most discusted look i have ever recived. He should never have been employed as front of house and I will be calling the restaurant to complain.
The food was good but it was completely ruined by our terrible host.
We did however leave a tip as during what I can only assume to be Mr Surly Face's break we were served by a fantastic example of manners and charm in the form the a waitress on the first week of the job. How is it possible that someone new to the job was by far and away better than...
Read moreBeen going for years. Went on Sat night, whilst obviously very busy with takeaway orders (helmeted delivery drivers lumbering about) wasn’t full of dine-ins and a bit disappointed to be right by the door (I have no doubt rectifiable) but it’s a loading bay joint and that’s the vibe.
Chef baulked at daughter’s request for Parmesan on pizza but taken in spirt ,and stated on menu.
Pizzas were outstanding, super fresh and tasty ,and the house red in plastic glasses fine.
Service good but waiters seemed a little nervous, maybe new.
All in all, good so long as you know you’re in a drafty ex Italian garage (Lamborghini visible in Stafford’s yard opposite) and definitely not your (dull) chain pizza joint
We enjoyed in the summer where there is a snug back seating area and I’ll come again in the winter, but family less keen on rustic atmosphere at this time of year though.
Food excellent 5. Would give 4.5 for atmos and service if...
Read moreThis is a proper authentic Italian pizzeria which also does excellent other Italian foods - pasta, salads, meats and antipasti - with particularly good gelato, seasonally.
The Granducato is definitively the best pizza available in Brighton.
Also, the staff are attentive and friendly, the restaurant is really pleasant, especially in spring-summer when you can sit outside in the garden, the drinks selection is great, and crucially, despite being high-quality across the board, it's all really reasonably priced.
For my money, this is the best pizzeria in a city with lots of really good pizzerias. I used to live nearby and went there all the time, and though I'm now both further away and nearer to about 6 other good pizzerias, I'll still generally choose to head to Pizza500 when it's Italian food I'm craving.
Can't recommend it...
