I think you go to a Pizza Express for reliability rather than an especially memorable haute cuisine experience... but the Rochester branch doesn't really deliver on any front. It's not terrible. We visited early on a Friday evening and ordered pizza. It took a long time to come; the table behind us (who arrived much later) received their pizzas before we did. My wife (who's vegetarian, but not vegan) asked whether the veggie calzone could be made with mozzarella, and was told that (for a reason the waiter didn't know) it was the only pizza which couldn't be modified. My garlic prawn pizza came without garlic, and was borderline undercooked. The cider was warm. The restaurant seemed over-endowed with waiting staff (not all of whom knew what to do with their time, so seemed to be hanging around the open-plan kitchen area, chatting) and under-endowed with chefs... the two of whom were lobbing food around (sometimes in the direction of plates, sometimes a bit less carefully) with something approaching abandon (they seemed stressed and overworked). We were seated nearby; it was disconcerting to see how many times food had to be replaced on plates with hands rather than other utensils (probably doesn't help on this front, having an open plan kitchen...). So... nothing awful happened, but overall it was just-about-acceptable and nothing more... which is shame, since it's a crowded marketplace and I have a fondness for Pizza Express. They need to try harder to survive, I...
Read moreWe’d had some poor experiences at Pizza Express in the past, but given the popularity of the chain, we thought these might have just been flukes. So we brought the kids to their first Pizza Express dinner. What followed was a disappointment, even by the low standards we already had going in. My wife’s chicken pasta was missing chicken, so we sent it back for chicken. It took so long to come back that the rest of the food was either finished or completely cold, so one person started eating their meal after everyone else was done. And when it did come back, it was very oddly smothered in Parmesan cheese. She didn’t finish her food. The taste and quality of the food was mediocre, and not worth anywhere near what it cost. The place was overstaffed for the number of customers, but they still managed to ignore us many times. I finally had to get up out of my chair and ask someone to come and serve us at one point. The service was just painfully slow in general. The atmosphere was loud and distracting, as we were seated close to the kitchen and right next to where they prepare the drinks. So there were servers rushing past us the entire time, but it was extremely difficult to flag them down. So we didn’t really get to enjoy the ambience of the restaurant. The whole experience was highly dissatisfactory. My wife and I have made a promise to each other never to return to...
Read moreAvoid JustEat's Pizza Express delivery service!!! Very Unhappy with service!
After a 58 minute wait for the order to arrive, our order was incomplete, meaning that two in our group had no meal. The food that did arrive was colder than room temperature and required re-heating before it could be eaten meaning we waited more than an hour and a half before we could sit down to an incomplete meal.
When I contacted JustEat customer services, to express my dissatisfaction and to find out how to go about receiving the items ommited from our order, I was told that not only would the food not be delivered (as it was 'not part of the service offered), but that we would only be refunded the missing items!
Despite the fact that we were completely unsatisfied with the meal and service in it's entirety, We were offered nothing by way of compensation having had our evening with friends ruined and paying more than £60 for the privilege!
After multiple failed attempts at contacting the restaurant directly, a message was left and we received no response. We requested that JustEat continue to attempt to contact the restaurant and, again, we received no response.
Very very unhappy and saddened by lack of basi...
