Red Chilli Restaurant — Restaurant in England

Read the reviews and thought we would try this place for dinner especially as we saw many Asians dining there (always a good sign to have the cuisine of the corresponding people frequenting the restaurant). Arrived at 6:30pm on a Wednesday.

1. Ordered a couple of appetizers and the salt and pepper squid was disappointingly oily (regardless of the cuisine if a fried dish is oily then it has not been fried at the correct temperature, basics of cooking).
2. checked on dessert options at the same time we were ordering our food. Was told there was only 1 dessert available (out of everything on the desserts page) so we ordered it …only to be told it was not available!
3. Even though the restaurant was only half full the appetizers took an long time. At 8pm (1.5 hours after we arrived) we still had not received our mains and had to ask for it. When it was finally brought out there was a dish missing, so we were almost done by the time we got our missing dish.
4. Asked for a repeat of our wine and was served the wrong wine (they brought out a rosé instead of red).

Tried to book a table for 6 on their website. Said the confirmation was successful on their page. I didn’t get an email of the confirmation so I did it again and same thing happened.

So I headed to the restaurant and bare in mind I’m British born Asian & speak Cantonese and English fluently. I don’t speak Mandarin but I was greeted in Mandarin and then the waiter said something but I could not understand so I spoke English and made it clear I can’t speak Mandarin. It seems as though the confirmation was not made.

Anyways, the food was okay but most of the foods we ordered were very oily. I go to Chinese restaurants frequently and the food isn’t usually this oily. Even the vegetable dishes were plummeted with oil. The beef noodles was bland but the other dishes were okay in terms of flavours. The pork shank was very fatty, meat was soft and drizzled with oil which made the dish very hard to eat.

Quite disappointed with this place as I saw the reviews and people have said it’s amazing. Could also do with improving lighting. We came for lunch and the place was very dark. It looked as if it was night time. We ordered around 7 dishes, (excluding tea and rice) and it came to a total of...

Food was mediocre, service was rubbish. Staff were nice when they did attend to us. We ordered salt and pepper chips, they had no flavour. A staff member did take them away and brought new ones out which were better when asked. But at the end they tried to charge for 2 lots of chips? We also ordered sweet and sour chicken, with rice, and chicken curry, with rice. The rice didn’t arrive so after around 10 minutes we asked staff where it was. They said they’d bring it, so after another 10 or so minutes they brought out 1 pot of rice and placed it inbetween us so we assumed it was 2 servings. By this point the rest of our food was stone cold and half eaten as we didn’t want to waste it. Then when we had finished our meal a staff member brought another pot of rice out. We said we didn’t want it as it had taken far too long and we had finished our food. They were happy to remove one pot of rice and 1 lot of chips from the bill after we asked them to, but they did try to charge us for it all initially.
