The Evening Star is both the starting point and the ending point of the most brilliant street in Brighton. That street would be Surrey Street, and I love it. I'm coming back for it. There are pubs, shops, and houses for the living along its full extent: starting or ending up at the station with the Grand Central (4.2 stars), the Railway' Bell (4 stars), Rock It Hair Artists (5 stars), across the street Brighton Eco Centre| Ethical Property (5 stars), Brighton & Hove Green Party 🥳(2.8 stars - whoops), University of Sussex (?), and The Evening Star (4.6 stars, "Ales and Stouts"), back across the street LTD, then WM (or MW) temporarily closed, next TABOO in red (4.1 stars), and Grocer and Grain health foods (a well-earned 4.8 stars). But, and but it is, we have completely forgotten to announce the colourful houses located two-thirds of the way down the street on the west side. Of these, the blue house required serious restoration work, finished to great success (see in the photos the screen capture of the same place in the Google archive). Put together all of the above, why wouldn't you want to come back,...

We had ourselves a very weird exchange with the man I think maybe Is the manager or the owner.

He refused to let me pay in cash citing that they hadn’t “accepted cash for years” when I asked him why that was. Which left me very bemused. My girlfriend paid with card in the end and we sat back down.

At my table and my friend correctly told me that it’s not legal to refuse to accept cash and when the man came over to our table to collect glasses my friend questioned him about it. The worker or manager (I think) then seemed to become very shifty about it when quizzed, obviously knowing that he does and should have to accept cash, but eventually admitted he doesn’t accept cash because then he would have to employ someone to count the money, meaning he lied to me at the bar originally, or “dodged the truth” shall we say.

A very unwelcoming experience. The bar itself has a nice collection of beers, nice ambience and design but obviously I wouldn’t go...

Great pub with many craft and session beers and ales available and some at under £5! I really like that the chalkboards show the prices and strengths of the beer so you know what you're buying and not stung with any ridiculous priced craft beers like in other pubs. I always enjoy popping in here after getting a train while waiting for my bus. It is a popular meeting point for Brighton football fans on match days due to it's close proximity to the train station. On match days it's standing room only and can take a while to get served sometimes. Staff usually seem a bit glum and rarely smile but they're not rude. Seating can be a bit limited and you might have to share a table but that's all part of...

Been there couple of times and every time they surprise me by the variety of beers. Great selection of cask, keg, craft beers & ciders, as well as veggie food options. Draught beers available included a variety of styles, with dark, stouts, porters, German weissbier as well as IPAs Really traditional pub environment but in a good way. Lovely atmosphere. Very handy for travel coz train station is just a min walk.friendly n attentive staff. So defo keep coming back while they serving good stuff.

Smaller pub than I expected, but a nice place to have a pint before catching a train back to London. The Revelation is a nice pint of Ipa and recommended by the slightly abrupt barman (although there were a few people waiting, so someone asking for a recommendation may not have been what he wanted). Bar area is small and easily blocked by people drinking at the bar, but a nice place for a, quiet pint at lunchtime.
