I used to eat at La Choza all the time and everything was always excellent, but I recently ate there twice and have been really disappointed. The first time, I thought it might have been a fluke, or we caught them on an off day, but after 2 poor dining experiences I'm afraid it's time to complain / give feedback. On the first occasion, the person who served us didn't write down our order, and then had to come back to ask us again what we'd ordered. When the food came, it still wasn't exactly what we'd ordered, and the burritos were so bursting with cheese that we couldn't really taste much else (I never thought I'd find a meal that had too much cheese in it). On the second occasion, we ordered our food and it took a really long time to come, over half an hour. When it came, the burritos were really dry - 2 of us had swapped dairy for guac, and the amount of guac in there was pathetic. There were two types of rice in these burritos, and not much else - we asked the server about this, because we couldn't see any beans either. After consulting with the chef, she came back and pointed at a miniscule brown smudge on the edge of the wrap and claimed that was the beans. Thankfully, she did bring us some extra beans and guac, but this really shouldn't be something we have to ask about. It's such a shame as we used to eat here regularly, but sadly we won't be going back now.

So I’ve only been here once before today (must’ve been more than five years ago) and happy to say that the food is just as good. Most places you get calamari, it tends to be rubbery or chewy, but here it’s really tender and flavoursome. The raspberry margarita is heavenly, and you barely notice it’s got alcohol in it, so beware if you order a few 🥴 My partner had the fish tacos and I had the pulled pork burrito, both were really yummy and filling, well worth the money! I may have eavesdropped someone complaining about the burrito (honestly, either they’ve never had a proper burrito before or were just being really picky) but their server did a good job explaining how their burritos are done and were happy to offer them to choose something else in a very professional manner (they declined the offer) so big shoutout to the lovely staff too. If you’re in Brighton and have a hankering for some good Mexican grub l, then do yourself a favour and pop by La Choza! (Btw, the photo of the marg, was after I took a big sip from it… couldn’t resist)

La Choza. Arguably a Brighton institution. Staff are really friendly and accommodating, service is fast and the vibes are good. In general the food is pretty good. As usual, for such cuisines outside certain geographical areas, a diagnosis of outstanding is hard to come by. Therefore, such a deduction would depend on what your opinion of good Mexican food is and what you’re used to. We enjoyed a cheesy nacho dip and the birria tacos. Regarding the cheese dip, I thought it was a bit pricey for what is was and I would have liked the onions to be chopped up. Flavour was good though. My thoughts are similar when it comes to the birria - the onions should have been chopped up though I did find it rather flavourful and I did drink the remaining broth. Though I would have liked an additional quesadilla as it comes with only two. I think it would also be nice to have a bit more cheese in the quesadillas. Overall good and I would go back.

The food is tasty and it travels fairly well, so as a delivery La Choza is great, but as a dine in experience I've been left quite disappointed.

They don't do bookings but it gets very busy so you often have to wait or give up an attempt to visit - annoying but that's not super uncommon.

When I did get a table this week for lunch, first we ordered a special, the waiter went to confirm it was still on, accepted the order, and 5 mins later we were told no they weren't doing any specials today and they took the specials board down. That's annoying, I'm okay with then not doing it but they just confirmed that they were! No matter, we got a different order anyway. We were waiting a while but the drinks we asked didn't turn up which was odd but it was busy. We got our tortilla chips but it was a load of chips and not much guac - disappointing ratio but ok. Later our food came out with a different waiter who tried giving it to another table who came after us but we had to shout a couple times to say no that's exactly our order. Turns out they original waiter out the wrong table number in - mistakes happen but in Corona times it's uncomfortable having your food put down infront of another customer. Still no drinks. We are the mains which were tasty, and our desert came out a second later - churros so they were cold by the time we finished the burritos. A bit annoying again. Still no drinks even though we reminded the waitress when she brought out food but we can't really flag her again she's busy.

Finally we finish our mains with not even water snd I just want to get home as my lunch break is nearly over. It takes a while to flag the waitress and ask for the bill, and we see her go in and out 3 times with different bills, asking us about one which is completely wrong and not ours. Eventually we get the right one and just pay it so we can go. At least we weren'tcharged for the drinks we didn't get to have.

Turns out the bill never included the 50% eat out to help out discount which was the entire reason we went there in the first place but I didn't click till after because I just wanted to make up time and get back before my lunch break was over. That was super annoying.

All in all its just left a bad taste in my mouth - too long, confused orders, bad timing of food, items that never came, and overcharged is just kinds the last straw. I like them as a business and maybe I'd deliveroo it or takeaway as the food was tasty but I won't trust them for a quick bite or a dine in again for a long while which...

Ate there this evening with my partner as a special treat because we both love it here but tonight we left feeling disappointed. The service was the main let down - the middle-aged man on shift was abrasive, impatient and rude.

We realise they don't have much space here and they do tend to jam you in, sharing tables with strangers. It's not ideal but we are okay with it. However, surely you would prioritise customers sitting on their own tables before making them share? We had a couple seated at our table when there were 2 other tables they could have sat at. These customers politely asked if they could sit somewhere else rather than sharing- the man instantly became defensive and aggressively replied "You can sit where you want but you WILL get MOVED if it gets BUSY!!". Just an unnecessary amount of aggression for a Tuesday night when customers aren't being unreasonable and are asking politely/calmly. (This actually happened twice whilst we were there)

This guy was in a rush all night but there weren't even that many customers so ?? He even forgot to ask us what salsa we wanted (we only realised afterwards when our order had already been taken to the kitchen, unfortunately). A customer on the table beside us wanted to ask about one of the drinks on the menu but was cut off and told to wait a minute whilst the man went to the ipad (whilst his colleague stood behind the bar and did nothing). I'm sure he could have taken a moment to answer the customer's question politely before completing his next task. It was the icing on the cake when he took my card to put in the card machine and he AUDIBLY SIGHED when he noticed it wasn't contactless! Come on, now! It doesn't take that long to type in a pin!

It's a cold evening and the door always opening sends a draught through the whole restaurant- there was a curtain that should have been drawn around the door to hold the heat but it was just tucked away instead. A bit of an oversight on behalf of the team- the comfort of customers should not be an after-thought.

The only reason this isn't 1 star is because the calamari is spectacular everytime- compliments to...

Went here for a birthday meal a couple of days back. Our seating was good as there was 7 of us and they sat us in the spacious area. Lady took our orders and as soon as food arrived, one of my friends had the wrong food delivered, even if she specified she was allergic to avocado and dairy. The lady apologised and said she was going to change it. Lady came back with her food and said it had no sour cream and no guac. My friend was glad coz she can finally have some food, however when she bit into her burrito, she noticed it had guac in it. We immediately alerted the staff and returned the food, they offered to cover whatever she wanted but she had no appetite at this point. Her lips and throat stared swelling up and we even considered going to A&E. My 2 male friends finished their Dos XX and ordered another round, but the lady seem to have forgotten this and they never returned to our table to ask if we wanted more drinks—surely this is what they should be doing for more profit? Anyway, we wanted to leave and just go to a pub as no one was going to offer us drinks here. As soon as the bill arrived, we noticed that my friend who got the wrong order’s food was still in the bill. So i went to the front of the restaurant to ask it to be taken off. The lady told me he was going to speak with the other staff abt the bill. They were talking at the other side but i heard the male staff said ‘If only you could open your eyes’ and they both giggled. As soon as the lady approached and explained the bill to me, i told her “I heard that”. The male staff walked behind me and i told him, “I heard that” but he casually kept walking like he didnt hear me. The lady staff looked worried and told me ‘oh no he directed that towards me’

We just paid the bill and left. My friend had a £20 deposit too and they didnt take it off the bill.

It was really a disappointing visit for a 30th bday meal. So if i were you, reconsider going to La Choza. We are never coming back and will share our experience to...
