Awful, avoid like the plague. Unless you want poor surly service, rickety filthy rotten tables, stinking toilets with no paper, over priced over the top descriptions of what is a basic menu on dirty laminates of deep fried, disgusting food concepts and at least 10 different paint colours to view on the shabby under cared for sad old cobbled together filthy decor of what was, no doubt, a lovely place 30 years ago. Every customer was told "We are fully booked" as they were left standing in the doorway, yet then "but we do have this one table..." As if this is the protocol to make you think they're popular. Underwhelmed with the lack of wi fi as the network is busy and waitresses unable to take orders, you must comply with the homemade signs proudly displayed on every wall and in every nook. Whilst you try to order everything on an app they stand gormlessly around the bar. Our table was covered in stains, went up and down so you couldn't put your drink down on certain parts of it and had a slit down the middle filled with previous diners crumbs. The bill of over 80 pounds was a sting, we had gone to meet our friends who had chosen the pub online. It's rank, don't be fooled by the other reviews. Seriously avoid, unless you like...

Its an unfamiliar role and giving customers direction, allocating seats and briefing them about the covid rules feels to be rather tricky for them, because it feels like the opposite of hospitality, which is what they are much more used too. Having to give orders probably feels very awkward and having to deal with one or two people who want to ignore those rules when drunk, is quite a test! But we must all play the game and sitting at the front looking down to the seafront on a warm night with a cold beer is still pretty well unbeatable, so good luck to them! I'm leaving this lockdown revue in place to remind us all of the difficulties the hospitality business and all of us who went through covid had to deal with - but I have posted a recent video of June 2023 of a Jazz evening at the Kemp, where we had a nice meal and a couple of beers and that shows I think just what positive measures they have taken to keep the pub going. Well done the Kemp! - I would encourage everyone to go there and get away from their troubles for an hour or two. Hospitality is alive...
