Perfect no frills boozer, loved it nice Victorian feel with drapes and old piano in the corner original bar and some excellent original features above the bar worth noting. Well kept Timothy Taylor ale served by a very welcoming smart cheerful barman, clean toilets and plenty of places to sit. Friendly locals happily chatting and a mixture of late 1940s and 50s playing giving way to me having a 2nd pint. Could stay all day. What I really liked is no TVs on. A pub with character for sure and these are the ones we are losing. Old fire place by the gents looked like it is often used.

Very atmospheric and very friendly place, this quirky retro style pub coffee shop is well worth a visit, (or two), a lot of The Beatles memorabilia and other interesting stuff hanging around. We visited many times during our stay in Ryde, they have some excellent beer and cider on draft and their own fresh ground coffee blend. (We bought half a kilo of the beans from them) Our Monday visit turned out to be quiz night, really good fun.

The Star is a really lovely pub; welcoming hosts, great beer, a wide variety of interesting snacks, delicious cakes, amazing pizza, cool decor and a great relaxed atmosphere. There’s live music each week, a collection of records and board games inside and seating outside surrounded by flower boxes on the pedestrian High Street. A true oasis in Ryde and highly recommended.

Traditional boozer, long on chat, short on background music, of which I approve. If it was a smidge less sepulchral I'have given it a 5 stars. The lighting could be a bit better.

Lots of board games darts etc so a good place to have ( friendly ) Scrabble or Cribbage competition or a Cleudo League.

Loos clean and tidy which in my book is always a plus. Daily specials on beer and lagers for 3.00 pounds which ain't bad at all. Staff very welcoming even if the punters are a bit like those in the "Hanged Lamb" if you've ever seen an American Werewolf in London. Or was it Withnail and I? I forget. I get the impression after 10 years attendance you may graduate to being a local but there may be a written test.

Welcome respite from the packed and noisy local Weatherspoons offering, which I walked into and out of in a not very graceful swerve - just not my sort of place. Take a book, a chum, newspapers provided on a sunday, outdoor tables in the nicer weather. Pretty sure you'd get free WiFi too, I dunno, I went there to write a letter. Yes, an actual letter. Pen paper stamp envelope. Get me....

Stopped of here today for lunch, the food was amazing, and excellent value for money. The landlord ( never managed to get his name ) was extremely helpful and attentive, even moved some tables for us so we had more room for our delicious food. We sat outside today as the weather was beautiful, but the interior of the bar was amazing, very atmosoheric, with lots of retro memorabilia, and the toilets were extremely clean, with the nicest ever hand soap that I have smelt. If you ever find yourself in Ryde I would highly recommend a visit, I will definitely visit again if I'm...

Where to start ... this wonderful little gem is by far the best pub in the Isle of Wight let alone Ryde. The staff are helpful and very friendly and there is always a big welcome for all. The Star is dog and family friendly and the bar food just gets better and better each time I have it. There is an emphasis on local food and produce especially from the garlic farm. The landlord and his wife have changed this pub into a beautiful place to just sit and relax whether it's during the day while shopping or in the evening with friends. Quiz night and music night are well...
