Most of the other reviews, which I largely based my decision to visit upon, seem to be of an entirely different pub.
The barman was pretty miserable, we got no acknowledgement upon arrival, departure or returning our empties to the bar. We were told that kids are only allowed in until 6. No problem at all with this as they told us in advance. Although another reviewer did state that it was family friendly.
The only bitter or ale was John Smith's, nothing else so I went with Guinness. I don't dislike Guinness but it is almost always my drink of last resort. There did appear to be a good selection of gins and flavoured vodkas. It was £7.90 for a Guinness and 2 halves of Coke. Certainly reasonable these days but not a great bargain as others have claimed.
The main reason that we went was to play pool. The cost appears to have doubled to £1 per game and the table is a mess. On the plus side, there is plenty of room around it.
The gents are not Trainspotting bad but could do with a lot of work if not ripping out.
I am always aware that a pub is first and foremost an adult environment but the behaviour of some of the patrons was not really acceptable whether children were present or not.
I have been in many worse places over the years but I would not choose to go there again and certainly would not take my kids if I did. We didn't take our dog because we were not sure whether they were allowed or not. If it helps...
Read moreLovely landlady absolutely brilliant and her husband top class .they have this system of stamping a card soo you get a free pint but people taking piss.as where my problem was we spent upwards of £200 and got refused another drink as we were deemed as drunk and got thrown out shame really because I would have gone in there at least once a month as I am from the same area and loved the atmosphere that place created but now I am gutted just because of some little talentless barmaid who hasn't got a clue.
This is coming from a man who has run pubs In hull which is a bit different from running a pub in a town full of convicted Speedos Shame really God...
Read moreStumbled across this place by accident as I didn't know the area. This was on a Thursday, around 4pm in August. It your local village, old pub, keeping in with the theme are its regulars who almost live here. In desperate need of updating. Furniture is very worn, dusty and is in keeping with the general wear and year of the whole place. It plays sport on all screens whilst playing unbelievably loud music - but good quality music. The positive is, this will be the cheapest place you find drinks. They...
