Since coming under new ownership, it has improved a lot. Almost back to the standard when it first began. However they have made some choices which have impacted the restaurant negatively, in my opinion.
The food is very good, and they keep things fresh and interesting with regular specials. My one issue with the food is that the way the burger is assembled and the type of bread used often means the whole thing falls apart mid-way through and it becomes laboursome and difficult and messy to eat.
I do love interacting with the staff as they are incredibly well mannered and friendly.
I am not a fan of the new interior, but I can respect the design choices. It does look cool, but that doesn’t make it appropriate to dine in. Bright white lights (especially at night), spotlights being shone directly at you while you eat, tables very close together, poor acoustics and reflective metal surfaces everywhere makes for quite a jarring and unpleasant dining experience.
They have also made the strange choice to make the windows opaque. These windows were one of the main attractions to dining in the restaurant (for me anyway) - it served as a relief from the claustrophobic nature of the building. It now feels very cooped up and penned in and uncomfortable. For this reason I would opt for takeaway.
Blocking the windows out also serves to create a sense of exclusivity about the building from the outside, often making it difficult to tell if it’s open or closed, or what it even is. It just says “the cowshed” on a sign. It looks like just another dead part of town if you’re walking or driving past it.
It is very expensive - expect to be paying £50-£60 if there is two of you. That is acceptable nowadays, but it’s cheeky for the card machine to then ask for tips.
I would strongly recommend the owners to collab with Fat Hippo in some way to see how they do things, especially with their burger assembly and ingredient choices. They use a type of light brioche roll which works really well for burgers.
I would recommend the parmigiano to anyone. It...

Our order was cheeseburger, BBQ burger, Korean fries as an extra along with onion rings. Food is fantastic, beautifully presented with the burgers being as a burger 🍔 should be, stacked, not sliding all over like an erupting volcano. The fries lovely, hot and crispy but not hard, same for the REAL onion rings, all perfect. The Korean fries are amazing if you enjoy a bit of spice, very different but tasty as in gimme more tasty. Portions, I can't imagine anyone leaving and not being full when choosing to eat here. I left wishing my eyes were in sync with my stomach but the food is so good I couldn't stop eating it.
Another benefit is you can opt for take away though you do have to collect it yourself but that's a minor.
My only "problem" was I opted for a soft drink, had an Arnie Palmer, totally delicious but for me far too sweet, lucky for me sparkling water is available.
All in all, I highly rate this place, this was my first visit but certainly won't be my last, actually can't wait to go back to try the chicken.
Many, many thanks to the lovely staff, definitely will return.
Cowshed Burgers .. HIGHLY recommended...
Read moreFor ages I've had people tell me I should try this place. I've called in 4 or 5 times and been unable to get a table. Then I saw them advertising on Facebook for takeaways. So how could I resist.
They mentioned two specials, so that made the decision easier. One chicken and one beef. Good quality ingredients ensure that a burger doesn't have to be grey in order to be ready to eat. So when we got back and opened the lovely presented food, I was a little disappointed when the skin-on fries were limp and sweaty. I suppose this could be part of the issue with getting a takeaway. But seriously not good. So I started on the burgers, chicken first. It was presented in a pink bun, but had pickled cabbage that was overwhelming...and I love pickles. So I tried the beef one, and it had pickle, which dominated the while burger. All I could taste was vinegar. The burger had no pink to it, which probably didn't matter as all the flavour was pickle any way.
£24 for two burgers and fries. A premium for a takeaway, but worth it, if it's great. This wasn't. I certainly won't be...
