Very relaxed and friendly. Waited for the group to fully arrive and didn’t pressure us. Unhurried service without any “eat and get out” pressure, which suits us fine. How the solo chap serving coped with being both a restaurant and a busy coffee shop I don’t know.
Food was surprising. The Ghost Ribs were super spicy and as hot as my home made sauce so it blew me away (almost literally). The ribs themselves were chunky with plenty of meat as opposed to the cardboard pre-prepared things many places serve. These were obviously marinated and cooked by the Pop Kitchen itself.
The “simple green salad” was anything but simple but presented very subtly. The pickled fennel was a great touch and delicious.
The Detroit pizzas were something I had never encountered before but they were amazing. The toppings were top quality, thick cut proper ham, chunks of rib meat, delicious and far better quality ingredients than you get from even premium restaurant pizzas normally in the UK.
Even the Malbec, slightly sour on its own, paired excellently with the sweetness of the pizza and of the salad.
In fact this is what I would aspire to were I cooking it myself - ingredients...
Read moreWe visited Pop in exeter today after a quick research of the food options of the area. We were intrict when we saw a few items off of their menu. And we were not disappointed once we received our food. We chose to try one of their Detroit style pizza (Oggy oggy) their Chipotle la Moo sandwich and we added the wings and the ribs to share. Pizza was delicious even though it was not covered in loads of toppings, it was made just right. I totally recommend the ribs. You can choose your favourite sauce and the meat on them was so tender it was actually melting in the mouth. Best dish we had. Wings and sandwich was really good as well. (Sandwich was cold which i guess this is how they serve them) In general we had a really good experience. We ended up with loads of left overs since their portions are big(in my opinion). 100% recommend if you're...
Read moreI turned up at this restaurant with 3 friends excited because the menu looks delicious. I was ‘greeted’ by a reluctant waitress who looked at us with surly distain, shaking her head before I even had the chance to ask if there was a table for 4.
The restaurant at this time was almost empty with just two small tables dining. The waitress told us that there was not a table for 4 and when I looked at her confused she said a group of 20 had booked in for later.
We would have been willing to come back later or whenever was a good time. It was before 6pm so we had the whole night to wait but we were not given that option. The waitress couldn’t wait to get rid of us.
Seems like a strange way to run a restaurant if you ask me. I hope the group...
