I'm a man of a certain age now. There's no denying that simple fact. It doesn't, however, mean, that I have to act that age. As such, one of my "guilty" pleasures is the odd trip into the Cathouse.
I've been there a couple times in the last month. Both times, I've been (or felt like) considerably the oldest person there. Oddly, though - I never once felt out of place. There was no glares and stares, or disgusted looks. Quite simply, I fit in.
Maybe there's something to be said for the acceptance of rock fans? Who knows.
Entry is up a HUGE flight of stairs that also acts as an unofficial sobriety test, so if you're of limited mobility or in a wheelchair, then it's an instant no go. Entry fees can be avoided with promo wristbands, available on their website at 3 for £1.50 (the bands also grant you cheap drink deals on certain items, well worth looking out for) or some nights entry is free if you check their facebook page and tag yourself on the photo. All a good idea.
The staff have never been anything but pleasant and fair to me, even when I've been... shall I say... the worse for wear. I've never had a problem with bouncers, or bar staff, and contrary to what I've read, I have to say the music choice is usually excellent. The DJs will tell you then and there if they can't play something, and are chatty types as well.
I wouldn't necessarily say it's my first choice to drop into these days - age is a terrible, terrible thing, kids - but it's always a nice wee change for the system.
Also, I attended a gig there, the sound I thought was excellent and not too loud, so take that for what you will.
I have awarded 4 stars. If you're under 25 and like rock music, you can probably up it to 5 stars.,,...
Read moreAmazing night here with my Girlfriend and friends it was my first time here But was ruined by the coat attendant at the end . When taking our coats at start of night she gave us 3 tickets for 4 items I said where's the other one and she replied I didn't include the bag which was great but at end of night I gave my tickets to same girl and she didn't give girlfriends jacket back she just repeated "you haven't got another ticket" even after I explained she repeated same phrase not even listening to me then I got angry (which is reasonable after not listening to me and after few beers I have less patience) I swore twice and the got the bouncer to me but I explained why would I come 14mile with a girlfriend without a jacket in a cold night he explained his policies regarding the jacket which would be invalid because I don't go to Glasgow much (once or twice a year) but the bouncer was great he seen that I wasn't leaving and i had valid points and then he went and looked for it (found it within seconds of looking) as soon as I seen it I said that was it straight away he explained it was in a hanger next to my ticket number i thanked the bouncer for his time to understand as I walked away with a ruined night because that just killed the good mood of the night but thanks to the bouncer he was great after I convinced him I was generally angry at the service and distrust that I got. To never let this happen again I suggest the coat attendant get better customer service and not see everyone as drunk and give tickets for every item if there going to...
Read moreCame here to see a band from 7pm, generally had a great night and the staff on the 1st floor were great, we got free entry for the main evening club night from 11:30 due to our gig ticket however as the night progressed we went to the top floor and the staff there at the bar were absolutely shocking. I waited over 20mins at the front of the bar with money in my hand being patient , not calling any bar staff, even though people were coming up the bar out of nowhere and getting served, I didn't get a glance nor a look from bar staff. So finally a bar staff was coming round near me again not even glancing at me so I raised my hand in the air to signal, like you would in school when a teacher asks a question and abruptly I got told don't raise your hand at me, and blatantly got informed whilst he served someone who just got to the bar. I had patiently been waiting for 20mins and I raise my hand in the air slightly and got told that?
I'm not sure if it's because I was the only coloured guy at the bar or what but I literally was not getting served from the staff on 2nd floor, the staff member in particular that made me like rubbish was a shorter brunette guy with a stinking attitude so we decided go back downstairs to the lovely and friendly staff there however this experience pretty much ruined the...
