The Fortune of War is one of the better beach bars on the Brighton seafront, located near Brighton Palace Pier (use the stairs from the promenade). It's one of the very few places where beers are properly served in GLASSES, not plastic cups. Makes a huge difference!. There's a fair range of lagers available, along with all kinds of other alcoholic beverages. The outside seating area is also nicer than most, with solid wood benches and tables. A nice place to hang out on a sunny afternoon.

Great pub to visit on a sunny day in Brighton! Right on the beach, plenty of seating outside and occasional live music. On the day I visited service was super quick despite how busy it was (bank holiday weekend). Has a second bar and more seating upstairs. Offers Pizzaface pizzas if you're feeling peckish. Toilets are upstairs and then down another set of stairs. Just something to bear in mind if visiting with anyone less able.

Woderful experience to be here! We visited this seaside pub with splendid views in May. The staff was friendly and professional. The customers were not only tourists but also included many locals. They were playing board games, or all together enjoying Pimm's, etc., etc. each truly seemed they're enjoying their own moment. It felt wonderful to be part of that atmosphere, and our time here was truly splendid.

It used to be one of my favorite hangout spots after work. However, that changed after the 3rd of April 2025.

The manager who served my friend was extremely rude. When my friend went up to order a drink, she was in a jolly mood and asked how he was doing and what was on offer, trying to be friendly and easygoing. Instead of at least saying "hi" or acknowledging her questions, he turned to her and asked, "What do you want?" in a rude manner, without a smile or even a "Hey, how are you?" Then he turned away and started serving someone else, saying that she was clearly not ready to order. Fortunately, a lovely member of the staff noticed this and came to serve my friend.

Later that night, when the manager came out to collect the empty glasses, he refused to take my friend's glasses. She got upset and gave him feedback about his hostile behavior. The conversation escalated, and he asked her to leave. I later spoke with him myself about the incident. It's clear that this manager has no idea how to provide good customer service in a pub environment, where people go to relax and have...

yesterday 11/8/24 we spent lots of money at the place just to be then treated like cacca by the security guard. We didn't want to sit in the pub, we were getting the beers from this place all day and drinking on the beach. When tried to use the toilet later that day, at around 22, the security guard prevent me from entering the pub, when tried to explain why I was trying to go to the toilet, he just started screaming at me while coming very close in my face, like some cheap thug. He was unnecessary aggressive to me, but not my boyfriend, due to obvious cowardly behaviour. Also, who prevent a woman from using the toilet? A savage! We love Brighton and will be back next Saturday and Sunday, but wont be back to this location, as at 40 years I like to spend my money where I am treated with respect and dignity. if kindness is there too, that's a very well appreciated extra. Thank you for ruining our evening...

It's probably a nice place but they leave doors wide open without any signs or anything even when they're not open yet. I walked in to use the toilet and then to buy a drink, and I couldn't see any staff anywhere. In the toilet saw another customer, who was there also not knowing why there were no lights in the toilets etc. When I came out I saw the first staff member:

Her: We're not open yet! Me: Oh sorry, the doors were open and there were no signs or anything there so I thought it was open. Her: Well doh we need to keep the door open because it's hot (yada yada) Me: Well doh in Finland they put signs out there to tell people that Her: This isn't Finland, darling.

So I made sure I never came back to this place, such rude service, if you could even call it that. Shame, I bet it is a nice place, at least it...
