Absolutely horrible - like a step back to the worst of the 90s. When Hellenic Bakery opened we were not sure about the old fashioned decor but we live nearby so went in with open minds wanting to support a new local business, but were beyond disappointed. We tried a number of things and not one gave us a reason to go back. The bread is execrable and when I asked for a gluten free or sourdough the staff did not even know what these were, so we took home a chia loaf that was like the strange artificial bread supermarkets baked 10 years ago - on reflection, the fact that brioche, bagels and most of the other loaves looked the same other than their shape should have been a give away. All the pastries we had were extremely oily (we have Greek family members so know this is not typical) not pleasantly flakey. The sweet pastries tasted of pure sugar and the savouries were bland even the classic Spanakopita was tasteless except for the greasy and slightly stale flavour that comes from sitting on a counter under heat for hours or days. Having walked past often now, the fact that the staff spend half their time on the doorstep smoking is revolting. But the most disgusting thing about this place is their flouting of food hygiene and the rules followed by people with special dietary requirements. Had we realised this we would never have bought anything the day we went. A neighbour went in to try Hellenic too but as a vegetarian they were horrified to find meat and vegan item right next to each other - a give away that care is not taken, if the indifferent and smoking staff was not already a give away, I am sorry to give such a poor review, but it is so disapoituing that this sort of place has opened up in the area - it fits more with Subway, the Vape Shop and Coral side of Seven Dials rather than the Jasmine's, Small Batch and The Flour Pot one, which is a real shame.

Im sorry to say but to me It looks better than it tastes. I must say this place puzzles me, everything looks so amazing and beautiful, the reviews are great and I so want it to be my favourite place but yesterday was my third attempt on buying something from here and again, I was disappointed. The reasons vary but the first time I was buying bread that was labelled sourdough, that just didn’t taste or looked like sourdough and it was stale the next day. And yesterday I was sold one jam donut that turned out to be apple filled, and one chocolate one that was something I can’t even tell what, maybe you can help me (picture below) Mistake aside, they weren’t particularly nice anyway, I did throw them away at the end .. Maybe I’m just very unlucky with my choices but I gave it three goes, I must admit though, there won’t be a 4th..

It’s a fairly big place offering a wide range of products from hot meals, celebratory cakes, chocolates, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks... Their wrapped chocolates (photo attached) are really addictive and some tasted much better than nutella. There is at times a long queue outside but I would say it is well worth the wait. You just need to find a place to eat it all outside as the benches in front of the shop are always taken by some local people.

I would like to state that my complaint is because I AM EXEMPT from wearing a mask and the fact that I was subjected to incorrect, inhuman treatment here... On arrival, the exterior looked inviting but the current stance of having to queue was most evident... Patiently, my friend and myself waited only to enter the premises and I was swiftly pounced upon by a member of staff (with a mask half hazardly) and quite abruptly I was told to vacate the premises as a mask had to be worn... Wow, I am SO humiliated that this was exposed to all in store and those awaiting in the queue with no discretion but utter Rudeness and no compassion... I asked for the manager but conveniently he was not available, I asked for a telephone number but again I was struck down and told his number not for customers only the shop number to be given(I actually did NOT request a personal number)... I felt that the girl who had subjected me to be hung, drawn & quartered possibly, had a gripe about me as a beautiful person of colour. The management need to re-train staff to be more diplomatic and treat customers on a incremental basis. The idea is that people with any disability must be treated in the same way as abled person irrespective of mental or physical ailments. Now legal experts have warned that shops, supermarkets and public transport providers could face legal action if staff turn away disabled people who are exempt from wearing masks. Hellenic Bakery ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW & discrimination in any form is...

I've been a regular customer since they've opened up in Seven Dials and it's easily the best bakery/café I've been to in Brighton! There is a big variety of greek pastries, sandwiches, biscuits and other desserts as well as great coffee selection. The opening hours are long (from 6am to 8pm, and are open every day, including Christmas day!!!), which is amazing when you need to get an early coffee -and breakfast- before work to start your day. The dessert products are out of this world, so fresh and d e l i c i o u s and they come in many shapes and sizes; from traditional baklava and other syrupy filo pastry products to small gateaus and large cakes! And if you want to take a break and enjoy your food and coffee there, there is an outdoors seating area, where you can also get to enjoy some sun! Even when raining, there is coverage over some tables and you can still enjoy your stay. The staff is always welcoming and helpful, with plenty of suggestions to make, if you're indecisive, knowledgeable on the available products and quick on serving you as fast as possible. Honestly, I couldn't have been happier with this place, 100% a...
