Had heard all about these Yorkshire Pudding Wraps on social media and from friends so on a recent trip decided to try one. I had to wait 20-30 minutes In a queue of people so I thought we'll this clearly must be worth it. When I finally ordered my food from a member of staff who couldn't even say hello to me and mention anything about the wait time being a pain, she then proceeded to mumble through my order and thankfully she got it right but I didn't even know that until I received my receipt. Upon receiving my order, which was two pork yorkshire wraps and a side of roasties I found that the roast potatoes were lukewarm at best and the wrap itself was OK at best but to say I Paid £10 each for these wraps I was not very impressed with just OK, the pork was alright but there wasn't very much of it and the vegetables you could tell had been boiled from frozen and again there was hardly any in there and the pudding itself was probably the only part that tasted anything like it should have but for £10 I expected a lot more value for my money. Very disappointing to say I could have cooked a whole pork joint and the fresh vegetables, fresh toasties and a fresh pudding for myself, my partner and two children for less that I had paid. To top it off my partner is now complaining of stomach aches and been very poorly since having it so I'm questioning the safety of the way they prepare the food. Do yourself a favour and find a local pub and pay a little extra for a proper dinner because this isn't worth it, not for the price...

The look and smell of this shop is like hearing the voices of the 'sirens' singing come to me. However A little like those Greek mythological creatures the allure is a little more than the reality. I didn't realise the wrap was a cold, flat Yorkshire pudding. It says it on the menu but trying to decide what you want with a queue building pressured me into buying a 'wrap' as opposed to a sandwich. But I was still happy with this until I had it. In the wrap you get turkey or pork or I think beef was an option too. Carrots, beans with stuffing and cranberry as options plus gravy. Wrapped then re- warmed in a grill. It's not that big, maybe 15cm, and doesn't hold together that well so not easy to eat. Taste wise, cold, soft Yorkshire pudding isn't great at the best of time, a little gravy which has no disernable flavour and veg that has the texture of cooked veg re-warmed in a microwave was not improved with the very small amount of shredded meat which failed to add any real value. Overall it was a tasteless stodge that was over priced and difficult to eat being very dry. At the cost charged it was extreamly poor value. I think it's a great idea and twist on 'street' food but doesn't compete with the burrito or kebab. But I think it could, just needs more work. Other options like a boxed meal might be better value or if you aren't particularly fussy it might suit. But for not much more you can sit down in a nearby pub and have a better meal altogether. If your in a rush though,...

The food was lovely, I can't fault it at all, the staff also lovely, and I was so lucky to arrive when there was no queue so I was served instantly.

The reason behind the 3 stars (would be 5 if it wasn't for this)

I'm assuming the owner, came downstairs and told the staff behind the counter not to let anyone other than customers use the toilet (completely fair especially in a tourist trap area) but the way this was directed at the employees was rather abrupt, and rude and it was repeated multiple times infront of me waiting for my order. I'm sure they understood the first time.

As someone who's worked in hospitality for over 10 years, and has a few years as a duty manager under the belt, barking orders to your employees isn't how you should conduct yourself at all, but to do so infront of or in the vicinity of your customers (where they're able to hear) is absolutely inappropriate and I'm confident will have made the staff feel embarrassed.

I agree that paying customers only should have access, and if staff members haven't followed the rules absolutely they should be put straight, but never infront of other employees and especially not customers.

I do hope this is taken as advice, because it truly is, show the incredible staff you have some integrity and...

Certainly, here's a revised version of your complaint review with a clearer emphasis on the issues you mentioned: I had high hopes for a Yorkshire Pudding Wrap at the York Roast Co., but my visit on Friday the 13th at 4 pm turned into quite the horror show. The troubles began when the employee behind the counter began preparing my order before I had even finalized what I wanted. As I was still inquiring about the menu, she mentioned stuffing, to which I politely declined. But her colleague interjected, "But I've already given you it," as if I had already agreed to it. I was taken aback and had to decline once more. What's more, when the wrap was being assembled, the employee added veggies without giving me the chance to choose between veggies or potatoes. I reluctantly accepted the veggies but declined onions. She responded with visible displeasure, insisting that it was just one onion. Proceeding to slam it aggressively on the counter. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just one onion, she had given me lots. Lastly, I asked for port and turkey and only received turkey. While the wrap itself tasted fine, the incident highlighted significant issues with customer service, from a colleague making assumptions about my order to an unprofessional handling of my preferences.

Visited the Stone gate/Goodram Gate restaurant on 30/10/24 mid afternoon when it was not very busy. Despite this the service was at a snail's pace and staff seemed very disengaged. Once I'd paid at the till I could see terrible state of food prep area, vwry messy, food hygiene gloves and scraps of food littered the floor, while the person at the till said he had to wait until he could take the next order as there was a backlog but just stood there looking bored instead of finding a broom to clear the area. When our food was made, we went upstairs to seating area only to find the most disgusting site, dirty tables, bins overflowing, and a filthy floor and walls. Went back down to ask if there was anyone avaliable to give area a clean and was told by staff member that there was spray and blue roll to clean it ourselves. Food was tasty but very slim pickings in terms of meat and tbh if I'd had seen the state of the seating and prep area before ordering I'd have stayed well away. Considering people left reviews about the state of the place over a month ago I would expect it to have been adressed by now. Emailed directly, no response hence the review. Score in the door's 4 rating is generous.

Went here recommended by a friend who lived in York. Was told about the Yorkshire pudding wrap so we had a festive special one (only over Christmas, with pigs in blanket and stuffing) and a double beef one. Have to say was quite enjoyable and definitely something unique I had never had before. The only thing that was quite off-putting was the cleanliness. Want to reiterate this is a festive season with many more customers due to the Christmas market so suspect the staff were quite stretched but, that being said, every single surface and handle was covered in something sticky (sauce I suppose) and I definitely saw veggies that had been put on a meaty wrap being put back into the communal tub, which I suppose is also used for vegetarian options? I'm not vegetarian but would not eat there if I was given what I saw and the use of the grills to heat up the wraps not being clean. Other than that, for meat eaters, the wrap is a good portion, well filled, tastes good and if you can put the cleanliness away (or try not to look like I did since it's an open kitchen) then you'll definitely enjoy it. Lovely staff too!
