My family and I have been loyal patrons of Tharavadu restaurant in Leeds for years. "Tharavadu" means ancestral home in Malayalam, the language of Keralites. For us, who are originally from Kerala, it truly feels like a Tharavadu of Kerala cuisine. I have witnessed their incredible journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most successful South Indian restaurants in the city. The dedication of their team—chefs, senior management, and service staff—is exemplary.
When I learned that their sister concern, "Uyare," had begun its Kerala culinary journey, I knew I had to experience it firsthand. "Uyare" means height or peak in Malayalam, and after dining there, I can confidently say it lives up to its name. The ambience is excellent, and the staff are professional, pleasant, and welcoming.
As a food enthusiast with a deep appreciation for Kerala flavors, I was eager to try their traditional dishes. The starters, Kalathappam (a pancake with rich Mid-Travancore culinary history), and the Kerala chicken curry were exceptional—each dish capturing the essence of Kerala cuisine. I wanted to describe each dish in detail, but the experience was truly beyond words.
If Tharavadu is the home of Kerala cuisine in Leeds, Uyare takes you to new heights of Kerala’s culinary excellence. My sincere wishes for Uyare’s success, and we will definitely be joining their food...
Read moreWhere do I start, We wanted to dine at Tharavadu on Mill Hill but with it been a Sunday it was closed. So I remembered seeing that the guys had one in Victoria gate. So I hastily booked a table for my birthday, I was that excited that we turned up an hour early (we decided on cocktails whilst the table was getting ready). The vibe was really chilled & so relaxing on the rooftop looking out over the city whilst we sipped these amazing cocktails. Then it was time to go to the table, it’s in another part of the building ( in my eyes a master stroke ) it allows you to party at the bar whilst not affecting the people dining. So the food arrives & it looks amazing (proof is in the eating as they say). The mixed starter for two was simply delicious with flavours dancing in my mouth. Then the mains arrived & wow stuffed sea bass with rice & I had the lamb/potato curry with a paratha, in my eyes the best food Leeds has to offer.
I want to mention the attentive service & politeness of all looking after us even though they were gearing up for the black masquerade ball that evening. So my final thoughts on Uyare, you need to go as it’s currently my number 1 restaurant in Leeds, & this comes from a mad foodie who can hold his own in the kitchen. Even If you’re just going for drinks the rooftop is the place to go with stunning sunsets. Please don’t change...
Read moreI went for a family meal to celebrate my friends and daughter’s birthday. They were 16 of us (1 disabled). The staff were amazing with my daughter and sang happy birthday to her with a compliment desert (for the candle ….) and great with my mum who was disabled and made her very welcome and we had a table reserved in the bar which was a high table and they accommodated up by moving to a smaller table. They were very friendly and attentive to my mum who had certain dietary requirements which they dealt with and provided a wonderful meal for her. The whole table was looked after by the staff who explained the dishes etc when asked. They were great with the 4 children there (1 Autistic). We wanted the bill splitting (my family made it complicated) and the staff were great with dealing with it - many venues do not do this and especially when we made it difficult. The food was amazing - my auntie was amazed but how tasty and differnt the food was and the kofi desert was just something else.
It was an amazing family event and would 100% recommend as the food, staff and atmosphere was more than we could wish for. Perfect for kids, couples and large parties. I will be going back on a date with my wife for sure and would defo do a family meal again.
It’s by far the best Indian restaurant I...
