Yup, another update :
But this could possibly my last one on this restaurant, why ?Find out below.
Mei Mei used to be one of the go to restaurant in Liverpool, unfortunately it had gone downhill steadily.
Long story short, Dad wanted to try the
Update 25 January 2020:
Back here for a Chinese New Year lunch meal with family. We were shown to a table upstairs (as the lower floor is full, understandably). Wasn't too bothered from previous good experience.
Well, we were very wrong. From the off, trying to catch the attention of the waiting staff to make an order is near impossible as they hide in a corner not visible from the customers. We spent a good 10 minutes trying to make an order.
The food arrived relatively quickly. By then, we were out of tea. You can imagine trying to catch their attention again to fill the teapots. In the meantime, the table next to us walked out as they had enough trying to order their meal. The thing is it was not even half full upstairs, so no excuse there.
To be fair, the food were up to standard, the dim sum were tasty, so we try to enjoy ourselves.
Forgot to mention last time is that you don't ask for the bill, but pay at the reception. Interesting. The bill comes to a little over £100, it seems about right. But examine the bill more closely, a 10% service charge was included which was a bit of a joke. We couldn't see any advertisement of the service charge anywhere including the menu. And the service we received was more in line of the 1% mark. We didn't want to make a fuss for it is CNY, so we left it at that.
Is it so hard to get a up to standard service at a Chinese Restaurant nowadays ?!
In summary, service is a bit of hit and miss, so be informed. And ... remember to check your bill !!
Update 5 January 2020:
Went to Mei Mei for a quick Dim Sum lunch on Monday, it was unusually busy with both floors opened and had to wait for a table.
After the previous experience, we were expecting the same non-service from the staff. To our surprise, the staff were very attentive; all the things they missed last time has been done quickly and professionally. Almost like two completely different sets of staff.
As we were ordering our Dim Sums, we couldn't find one item on the sheet and we were talking amongst ourselves. But it was overheard by one of the staff and quickly show us where it was. I think a praise is in order, and it is little things like this that gives a good impression to customers.
Overall, a very...
Read moreWhat a Joke! ........ And the Joke was on us! So, my partner has Leukamia and Bladder cancer; before rubbish finally hits the fan we wanted to build up 'happy' memories. One was to see the World Museum's exhibit of the Terracotta Army (brilliant!) and to top this off, a good chinese meal which I sourced via Tripadviser, of which there were two that stood out. The Mei Mei was open early evening and not that busy when we arrived, the first Head Waiter was courteous and chatty as one would expect and took our order. We then sat...and sat.... and sat... then eventually the first course arrived.... by the time we finished, at least 30 indigenous Chinese had arrived and ordered. 15 mins went by and our first course plates still weren't taken away... we sat... we sat... waiting.... then 30 minutes went by - nothing, zippo.... no main course..... but every one who had arrived previously were now dining on their main course ... we were not. So I called the 2nd Head waiter over and said that we needed to get going soon because we had a long journey back to Cumbria... he literally turned on me! (now remember, I'm a senior) immediately lent over the table, invaded my space and put his face right up to my face aggressively said "your food is cooked - do you want it?" "yes, I said politely, spluttering at this unwarrented aggressive outburst, bring it on".... he stormed off.... now the people who'd arrived after us were starting to leave having completed their meal!! A female waitress brought two plates and we thought ... at last! But oh no ......wrong! another 10+ minutes went by when this Aggressive, threatening, vile piece of cow-pat of a 2nd Head Waiter returned with a plate and the bill for what we'd had - can you believe this? I couldn't make it up honestly...... then promptly said "your food isn't cooked, pay up!" How ironic..... Now I have a sick partner, I wasn't going to kick up a fuss because this Cow-pat of a Head Waiter was seriously threatening and my guess was I'd need to call the police. So I paid the £11.70 and walked out. The moral of this tale Is to steer clear of this place at all costs ..... go somewhere else, but not here... unless you want a piece of abuse hurled at you for no good reason. Clearly they respect only indigenious chinese above all else...... so for the Cow-pat of a 2nd Waiter and for the Management that supported him...... I hope this translates correctly .... 他妈的你也是 or in...
Read moreUpon entering, I noticed that the restaurant was very busy. We asked for a table of 5 and were assured that we would be getting the table that has just become available. The “manager” left us unattended, understandably so as it was busy, however, after 25 minutes had passed, workers did not take any action to clean the tables and seat us. A white couple who came in after us were seated immediately as the manager had instructed workers to clear up their table. Whilst we, a Chinese family of 5, were kept waiting even though we could see a table empty. When we were finally seated, the worker who took our paper order was very rude and did not show any customer care which we were disheartened by as we had already had a frustrating start to our restaurant experience. The food started coming quite quickly however, when our steamed rice roll came, my mum noticed a thick, black hair in one of the rolls. Immediately disgusted, we waved one of the workers over to show the plate of food. She was unapologetic and nonchalantly offered to either refund it or cancel it from our bill. We chose to cancel it from our bill as we were very hungry and just wanted to move on from it. The food kept coming however, we were appalled to see that yet another one of the dishes (salted egg custard balls) we ordered contained a long, black hair. At this point, we were very frustrated with this entire experience in the span of 30 minutes. We called a different waitress over and explained to her how we have found yet another hair in the dish. She offered to replace or refund. We chose a refund on the dish and decided that we would abandon the rest of the food on the table due to the loss of appetite. I don’t usually want to make these type of reviews however, I left Mei Mei Restaurant completely unsatisfied with the food, the service, and the overall lack of customer care. As a fellow member of the Chinese community, I was completely appalled by the treatment we received and I unfortunately doubt that I’d ever return again. I hope to hear that they take this review as an opportunity to improve staff training and...
