This was my first visit to the Cowshed. A party a five, we arrived a whole 5 minutes early for our 6:30 booking, then asked to leave and come back 5 minutes later. There was no offer for us to sit and wait for the table. When we returned we were seated in a room full of empty tables and then we were informed that we had the table for no more than two hours. We ordered starters and mains, my starter of 3 cheese garlic bread was nice, being 4 slices of garlic baguette - 3 with different cheeses on each, along with a tomato chutney. I ordered a medium rare ribeye steak but this ended up more medium to well done. I know this can happen with steak sometimes, but this is a restaurant that makes a big song and dance about being steak experts. I, for one, was left unimpressed. Midway through our mains we were informed that we would only have the table for another 30 minutes - it was starting to feel like we had a speaking clock and it didn't make for a relaxing time. This was odd because we were still sitting in a relatively empty room, (by this time only one other couple had arrived and were seated next to our table). However, by the time the meal was over, the server collecting the plates then informed us that we could, in fact, have a whole extra ten more minutes - which was nice of them. So, would I go back? Probably not. Apart from the starter, which was nice ( you'd have to go some to make a hash of garlic bread though), the steak (for a steakhouse) was mediocre at best and the staff seemed far too keen on...
Read moreThe food taste better than the pictures....And that is an understatement. Right in the heart of Liverpool, it is easy to miss. But do not miss this one out especialy if you are local it would be a crime. The restaurant does not offer anyu free parking but that should not stop you. Being in the city centre ish you cannot expect anything else. The place is vibrant and the staff is profesional and enthusiastic. They know they are working in a Restaurant where food matters. The table and setup is really cute and suitable or anyone who wants to impress the loved one. The food...the food...it is excellent to really great. At this level we can be picky and asking and expect for more as the management and chef totally understand food and food lovers. The Ribeye top nocht we are talking about high quality meat in your plate. I cannot remember a better ribeye in the last 15 years in the UK. For you to understand this is the upper level of Ribeye. If you order this you will never be disapointed. But you should be careful as this will become your bench mark everything else will next to shite. The flat iron cut and Rump is also great but nothing near the Ribeye. The meat quality is equal but the cut is not as great as you should expect. The sides are actually the best way to measure the commitment of the chef. The fries are awesome but the Savoy Cabbage & green beans/Chorizo and cream this simply taking the chef to god level. Enough said stop wasting your time reading this - taste it and let us know what...
Read moreVisited this steakhouse for dinner on day 1 of a 2 day business trip to Liverpool. Booking the table was a butnof an effort...the website showed no tables available so I rang the restaurant and had to leave a vm. But to their credit, they rang me back and the person I spoke to was very friendly and accommodating. The place itself is quite small...but nicely done out in a clean and functional way. The menu surprised me in terms of price...the steaks were really cheap...I think none of them were priced over £20. 2 of us ordered a couple of ribeyes with some sides and a bottle of red which was priced around £35/40. The food was OK...it wasn't fantastic. The steaks were very thin...hence the price point I suppose. Well cooked but nothing more. The chips were very good though I have to say! Service was a bit hit and miss. For such a small dining room (6 tables I think...and 2 were empty) our waitress disappeared for long stretches. But when she was there she was very nice... The other strange thing involved our wine. When the waitress brought it to the table she opened it and then left the bottle there...no tasting or pouring etc. I wasn't overly fussed but I have never seen that before in a restaurant. Overall I'd say this is a decent local neighbourhood restaurant for those who want to have a steak without forking out too much £££. But I wouldn't make the trip to...
