I searched on Google for live traditional music options in Liverpool. Pogue Malone’s came up as a third choice but the only place with live music on a Wednesday evening. I arrived early to check it out and had a pint. It seemed fine: a tad geared to tourists but that’d be expected in the area. I was looking forward to seeing the band and made a quick trip to The Cavern Club 👍 and made my way back to order their vegan pie as I’m a vegetarian. All was good till I started eating. The first bite had a small crunch, the second had another small crunch… the pie tasted good so I cautiously went for a third bite. I bit down on a 1/4” piece of something sharp and hard. I stopped eating and took it back to the bar. That’s when things got sideways… The young lady in charge of the bar was very unprofessional. She said that they’d not had any other complaints and I assured her that yes there was a problem with the pie. She acted mildly rude and dismissive and asked well what did I want to do. Her younger male bar worker looked at her sideways. I said well, you should check your pies because there’s a problem. She was sassy and dismissive and I told her so which was a BIG MISTAKE. She could not let any criticism go and proceeded to make it an issue until I had to...
Read morePogue Mahone is everything you want from a proper Irish pub. It's got that authentic, no-frills charm where the drinks flow, the laughs are loud, and the atmosphere feels like a warm hug from your favorite uncle who knows all the craic.
The Guinness? Spot on – smooth, creamy, and worth every penny. You won’t find any fancy frills here, but that’s the magic of it. It’s a place for real pints, real conversations, and real good times. The staff are friendly, quick on the pour, and always up for a chat if they’re not rushed off their feet.
Whether you’re popping in for a quiet midweek pint or diving into the weekend shenanigans with live music and a buzzing crowd, Pogue Mahone delivers every time.
An Irish gem in Liverpool that feels like home – even if you’re just...
Read moreHomely and a good guiness. Friendly staff and a relaxed vibe. Has an atmosphere and layout of pubs of old with comfy leather chairs and a warm log fire for winters. Average priced I'd say for the area. Not particularly a niche crowd rather mixed between regulars students and tourist. One of my favourite pubs in Liverpool I only hope it stays open as over the years its been opened and closed a decent few times and whether or not it does food seems to alter equally which is a shame as whenever I've had food there in the past its been decent and more like homemade food rather than a microwaved pub grub selection. Has Live music often and can het quite cramped when its a half busy night out but I never struggled for service and they keep it...
