A proper pub serving proper beer. The manager and staff are always friendly and welcoming and keep an excellent cellar of nice selections. There is none of this unpalatable craft rubbish that so many pubs seems to be jumping on the bandwagon to. Rev James is a traditional firm favourite and thankfully a permanent feature here, but there are other changeable selections to choose from that are well worth trying. Pub grub is also on the menu and if you want to stay and watch the sport, that is always an option. What I also like about this pub is the relaxed atmosphere and I always enjoy a pint or several after a stressful day in work to unwind. Read moreI would have liked to give 4 to 5 stars as the choice of beers is good and reasonably priced; the food, though unimaginative, is tasty and very good value. However, on a day when I had to stay alcohol free due to driving, I was charged £3.20 for a pint of lime and soda which is outrageous - even so called gourmet pubs rarely charge more than £2.00 - amazing how small details can sour ones opinion. Read moreThis was my first time in Vernon arms and I was pleasantly surprised! Very nice, small, old fashioned pub. We ordered the "lunch rush" special which was 2 main meals for £12. Which was AMAZING! We also ordered 2 Kopperberg ciders and our total came to £24. The only reason I am giving 4 starts in stead of 5 is because I feel like £6 for a cider is a bit expensive....don't know if there was some mistake....
