This was my first time in Vernon arms and I was pleasantly surprised! Very nice, small, old fashioned pub. We ordered the "lunch rush" special which was 2 main meals for £12. Which was AMAZING! We also ordered 2 Kopperberg ciders and our total came to £24. The only reason I am giving 4 starts in stead of 5 is because I feel like £6 for a cider is a bit expensive....don't know if there was some mistake.... But the food was so affordable, and great value for money, that I couldn't be too mad!! Service was great!

The Vernon Arms is just the type of pub that I look for, a good old fashioned boozer with some magnificent real ales on, all on top form i might add. As i expected the bar staff were really friendly and asked what sort of beer i wanted, giving me a few tasters on the way, and i went for a Cheshire Cat which was perfectly poured and went down a treat, so i had to get another as it would have been rude not to. 10 /10, a must for real ale drinkers. Ps I couldnt rate the food as i don't know if they did it.

Great Pub to have a drink and interesting slanted floor. However, a serious case of black mould in the toilets. There should be a health and safety concern and they shouldn’t be opening the toilets with this harmful substance everywhere. As well as a lot of damage to the toilets in general. Surely it doesn’t take a huge amount of money to renovate and make it look less like a Third World toilet.

A proper pub serving proper beer. The manager and staff are always friendly and welcoming and keep an excellent cellar of nice selections. There is none of this unpalatable craft rubbish that so many pubs seems to be jumping on the bandwagon to. Rev James is a traditional firm favourite and thankfully a permanent feature here, but there are other changeable selections to choose from that are well worth trying. Pub grub is also on the menu and if you want to stay and watch the sport, that is always an option. What I also like about this pub is the relaxed atmosphere and I always enjoy a pint or several after a stressful day in work to unwind. The music selection is also discerning and caters to us older clientele (who have better taste than the youngsters!) and at a level where you can talk and be heard. Plus it would be remiss of me not to mention the famous...

I would have liked to give 4 to 5 stars as the choice of beers is good and reasonably priced; the food, though unimaginative, is tasty and very good value. However, on a day when I had to stay alcohol free due to driving, I was charged £3.20 for a pint of lime and soda which is outrageous - even so called gourmet pubs rarely charge more than £2.00 - amazing how small details can sour ones opinion. Very disappointing, I'll stick to beer next time! Also, it wouldn't do any harm to use some air freshener in...
