Yannis Fish and Chips – A Hidden Gem in Liverpool I recently made a quick stop at Yannis Fish and Chips in Liverpool, and what was meant to be a short visit turned into one of those surprising food moments that sticks with you. This will be the first of what I hope is many visits—because Yannis made quite the impression! First Impressions & Service From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with genuine warmth. The staff were incredibly friendly, smiling and welcoming despite what became a very busy Monday afternoon rush. That kind of service can set the tone for an entire experience, and here, it really did. There’s something about being served with a smile that just elevates everything else. The Chips – Fresh, Hot, and Punchy I only had time to grab chips this time around, but wow—what a revelation. While they were ready to go, they tasted like they'd just been cooked to order. Piping hot, beautifully golden, and impressively fresh, each bite delivered that satisfying crunch and soft centre we all look for in proper chippy chips. They were seasoned well and had that little extra something—flavourful, bold, and absolutely moreish. These weren’t your standard filler chips. They packed a punch and felt like the main event. Atmosphere & Seating Even though it was just a Monday afternoon, Yannis was bustling—always a good sign. It clearly has its loyal crowd, and I can see why. There’s outdoor seating with a few tables available, perfect for a quick sit-down or people-watching with your portion of chips. It adds to the laid-back, welcoming vibe of the place. Compared to Others in Liverpool… In comparison to another well-known Liverpool chippy I reviewed previously, Yannis is comfortably ahead—especially when it comes to freshness, friendliness, and that all-important first bite. There’s a clear passion here for doing things properly. What’s Next? The Fish! I’m already planning to head back—this time to try their fish, which I’ve heard great things about. If it’s anything like the chips, I’m expecting a real treat. It’s not often you find a place that gets the basics so right, and I’m excited to see how the rest of the menu lives up. Final Thoughts Yannis Fish and Chips may have started as a quick pit stop, but it’s firmly on my return list now. With top-tier chips, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere, this little chippy in Liverpool has all the makings of a local favourite—and potentially one of my go-to spots. Looking forward...
Read moreWithout a doubt - best chippy in the UK. Super clean, fresh and great portions. It tastes how you want a chippy to taste. I’ve tried them all in Liverpool and everywhere else is sincerely disappointing: Lobster Pot is rank - brown musty chips that are half cooked and still hard, then Docklands - chips are dry, tasteless, small fish, overpriced, then Johnny English - they use frozen chips omg and they taste like blocks of grease so so bad.
This was like an oasis in the desert. It’s hands down my favourite takeaway.
My only suggestion would be a “cash or Apple/Google Pay” and allow some people to pay that way. I know there’s a cost in that but equally I have walked past Yannis before and wanted to purchase but couldn’t because I didn’t have my card on me (only Apple Pay on my phone). I don’t know if you miss out on customer's because loads of 20/30 year olds don’t carry wallets anymore. Not to criticise of course it’s just gutting when you want a Yanni’s but don’t have a card to get cash out or cash on you :’)
Thank you for being one of the few establishments that prioritises quality food. Your staff are also a credit to you and are always so kind and friendly. A must...
Read moreSecond time visiting Liverpool, second time visiting Yanni's. Seriously people, I am Scottish, we know what we are talking about when we talk about deep fried foods! This chippy is fantastic. The last time, I had what we call a special fish, that is a fish not covered in batter but breaded then deep fried. This time I had the battered haddock! Lovely fresh fish and hand cut chips. The battered fish was enormous, could have fed two! Lovely crispy batter, that stayed crispy all the way to the last bite. The customer service is brilliant as well, always wanting and willing to help, cheerful and friendly. It's a small seating area and of course I dropped my sticks whilst trying to sit down but I had plenty of people asking me if I was alright, and did I need a hand and that was the customers and the staff. Seriously good place to eat and it's always busy, so you have been warned. If you are in Liverpool, stop in at Yanni's you won't be disappointed. Thank you to the staff member who offered their assistance to me it was greatly...
