Top quality lunch and brunch at this friendly, busy cafe.

I've been coming here on Saturdays, for many years, during the lunchtime break in training at Wu's Tai Chi Academy just down the road.

Formerly the Astro Star Cafe, it had a serious makeover during the pandemic period, and is now reinvented as the Astro Cafe & Brunch, with a much more modern and stylish menu, although you can still get simple egg and chips, etc., if you fancy - the Early Bird breakfast is great value if you want a big meal!

But now the old greasy spoon favourites are just a sidebar to the spectacular pancake confections, sophisticated and beautifully presented egg dishes, colourful smoothies, etc., which attract a buzzy young crowd to keep the incredibly patient and hardworking staff running back and forth non-stop at peak times.

Highly...

My husband is always talking about the breakfast sausages in the UK, and was disappointed in the first few breakfasts we had during our trip. Then we went to Astro Cafe, and it was everything he had been hoping for. The food was high quality and delicious. The portions were extremely generous. Everything was fresh. The egg yolks were bright yellow, and the orange juice tasted freshly squeezed (even if we hadn't seen the juicer up front). We also appreciated the baked goods case at the front where we grabbed a few pastries to go at the end. There was some vegan oat pastry with fruit in it that was delightful. Being extremely jetlagged, we greatly appreciated the all-day breakfast food options. We also thought the prices were fantastic, compared to what we're used to for this level of quality in...

Absolutely banging breakfast and brunch to be had at Astro’s. The quality of the ingredients, portion size and hospitality is superb. I really don’t get the negative reviews. I am in London a couple of times a year and this is hands down the best place for brunch in my humble opinion. My go-to is the Astro Full English, it’s so well cooked but always has something extra to make it stand more. The little chives on the beans, the beautiful fruit pot served with it and the finest ingredients make it worthwhile every time. Thank you to all the staff who can’t do enough for you, the cafe is the heart of the high street and makes for a tasty treat at the start, middle or end of the day. Just wish I lived closer to come weekly! The best of health and wealth to you and...

Astro Star Cafe is a typical British cafe. So expect a stereotypical, down to earth cafe. Don't expect too much for the decor of the interior. Nothing surprising to be found on the menu really. Just stereotypical British fry up like fried eggs, sausages, black pudding etc. The portions are big and generous. So much so I couldn't even finish my plate of omelette and chips. Nothing to do with the food, just too much for me to eat in one sitting. I also tried to order a latte, but that wasn't possible. Astro Star only serve instant coffee. So I got fresh orange juice instead, which was very nice. Payment is cash only. Overall, the cafe is good value for money with a few annoyances. The staff are friendly enough though.
