Blacklock Covent Garden: A Treasure Trove of Steak and Charm Tucked away on a quiet side street, Blacklock Covent Garden offers a unique dining experience that feels like discovering a hidden gem. Stepping through the unassuming entrance, you're immediately transported into a cozy, basement-level space with a distinctly speakeasy vibe. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool, drawing a young, hip crowd into its warm embrace. The staff at Blacklock are truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were met with genuine warmth and kindness, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment. The menu, presented on a large chalkboard, showcases the evening's steak offerings, clearly categorized by type and priced by the ounce. This simple yet effective approach allows diners to customize their meal to their exact preferences. As the cuts sold out, they were promptly crossed off the board, adding a dynamic and engaging element to the dining experience. Blacklock's beverage program is equally impressive. The mocktail menu is a delightful surprise, featuring inventive and flavorful creations like the "Mindful Martini" and the "Evereleaf Forest Aperitif" (a refreshing blend of blackberry, apple, and lemon). The mixologists here are clearly masters of their craft. Our server's wine recommendation was also spot-on, perfectly complementing our meal. The food itself is nothing short of outstanding. The "10 Hour Ash Roasted Sweet Potato" is a must-try – a testament to the kitchen's dedication to simple ingredients cooked to perfection. And of course, the steak, chosen from the chalkboard selection, was cooked to absolute perfection. For dessert, the "Bread & Butter Pudding" was a hearty and warming treat, made even more indulgent with a glug of brandy. Served with either custard or ice cream, it was the perfect comforting end to a fantastic meal. Beyond the exceptional food and drink, the staff's knowledge of the city was a delightful bonus. They were eager to share recommendations for events and attractions, making our vacation even more memorable. Blacklock Covent Garden is more than just a steakhouse; it's an experience. With its unique atmosphere, friendly staff, and exceptional food and drink, it's a must-visit for anyone looking for a memorable dining...
Read moreFirst time at Blacklock in Covent Garden and I’ve got to say, it really stood out. I know people throw around words like “amazing” or “unreal” too easily, but this place genuinely felt like a breath of fresh air.
We arrived without a booking and it was clearly busy, but the host still managed to fit us in. Really accommodating, which set the tone straight away. We were seated on a lovely raised area, perfect for our group, and from that point on the service was spot on. Friendly, warm, and relaxed. Exactly how it should be. Travis in particular deserves a mention for brilliant service from start to finish, but honestly, everyone we came across made us feel welcome.
Even though the place was packed, it didn’t feel rushed or chaotic. There was a personal touch to everything, which isn’t something you get everywhere, especially not in central London. Compared to other spots we tried this week, Blacklock was in a different league.
Now, the food. We went for the “all in” option with lamb, pork, and steak. All cooked beautifully. Proper flavours, great texture, nothing overdone or underwhelming. The bread soaked in dripping was something else. Chips cooked in beef dripping were crispy, rich, and proper comfort food.
One surprise hit? The broccoli and walnut salad. I know, doesn’t sound like the star of the show, but trust me, we were asking for the recipe by the end. Absolutely brilliant.
Dessert didn’t miss either. Irish coffee was spot on. The kind you sip slowly because it’s that good. We shared a few puds around the table. The apple and rhubarb crumble came out hot and fresh. The cheesecake was served straight from the tray and tasted like it had been made about ten minutes before we arrived. Rich, creamy, just perfect. All in all, it’s rare to find a place that nails the food and the service like this. Worth every penny. I’m in London fairly often for work and can’t believe this was my first time at Blacklock, but definitely not the...
Read moreDON'T GO HERE!! We were here last here last Thursday which made it our 10th time but..... tonight will be our last !!
We had a 5.00pm reservation and arrived 5 minutes early. When seated we were told it would be a 40 minute wait for the food, not a problem at all. We had some steaks that were really good and then at 6.10pm we were given the desert menus, great. We were ready to order some desserts and another bottle of wine when out of the blue the waitress said we couldn't have anything else as we had to leave the table at 6.30. Where does it state that you only have an hour and a half, (including waiting time) to eat and drink everything! We live in Hampshire so it's not a local jaunt out. We won't be returning and thanks for ruining the evening. It's a shame Rules restaurant is closed on a Monday as we would have gone there to rescue the evening. 0/10
31st March. Another excellent meal here on chop night. Our waitress Hanni from Taiwan was brilliant and a credit to the company. The thing we liked was that she loved working at Black Lock as all the staff looked after each other. A good company needs a total package of decent food, good location and loyal staff. We import wine from Italy and took a bottle to try with the food, (corkage is only £10,00 ) some of the staff had a little taste as well and loved it. (If you need a good wine supplier from Italy Gordon let me know :-) ). 10/10 See you Mon 14th
Absolutely brilliant!. I'd booked a table for my daughter and myself. My train was delayed but the staff held the table until I arrived, (it was the end of one of the shifts). The service was great, the food was excellent value, (2 x All ins). Plus they do corkage at only £10.00. We'd been before for Sunday lunch, again excellent and will be returning at the end of the...
