Bear in mind that I’m usually a relatively generous reviewer.

Two of us ordered the potato and chorizo hash at first. It came out looking like someone had thrown up on it twice, and it tasted likewise. We then asked for it to be changed - I got the baked eggs (essentially a take on Shakshuka) instead. This was better than the hash but just about average.

The service was poor, possibly even rude - slow/lost/unfriendly. Waited for what must’ve been 10-15mins to get the bill and had to ask twice for it; the place wasn’t busy at all by this time - the server who was meant to be getting our bill was slowly laying tables instead. When we got the bill, we’d been charged for the 2x potato & chorizo hash dishes that we’d asked for to be replaced. To be fair, the manager got these removed from the bill without any trouble once we asked, but it just added to the frustration of having waited 10mins for the bill in the first place and the rest of the poor experience.

Leaving 2 stars instead of 1 only because the manager was nice and gave us no problems in changing our dishes and amending the bill at the end. She was very friendly, unlike the rest of the staff (I believe one of them rolled her eyes at my friend as we were leaving).

It would be unfair to overlook that the place has a very nice atmosphere and generally good energy. A perfect spot if you’re out for a good instagram shot (minus the potato hash) and not too bothered about the food...

Had a disappointing brunch experience here. I walked in, and had to wait for the maître dee, which was fine, however, I asked to be seated for one person, and the maître dee immediately said, "We're fully booked out" - I looked around the restaurant and there were a few tables empty, let alone the numerous empty tables outside, to which I asked if I could sit out on one of them. The maître dee then replied, "I can put you up at the window" - which had two empty seats; from being fully booked out to conveniently finding me seats in a split second, had already put me off.

Ordering was relatively quick, after actively flagging staff down. I ordered the Chorizo and Potato Hash and an oat flat white - the brunch dish came out, what felt like immediately (like in a minute or two), which was quite surprising - as weird as it sounds, food coming out that quick raises eyebrows. I also noticed that I didn't get some table water - the couple to the right of me, received water, the couple to the left of me (who sat down after me, after the previous couple left), also received water.

The dish itself was tasty, but to call it Chorizo and Potato Hash is quite misleading - there literally were only three bite size slices of chorizo, and it was full potatoes, not hash - also considering it was priced at £13.50, I was expecting more.

The coffee served here was great, but given that it's a roaster, I'd be even more surprised if that were...

Advised to make a booking, show up and tell them I made a reservation and they get it wrong at first. I really enjoyed what I ordered, the food was definitely really good don't get me wrong but what really brought down the experience was the service. I'm not ordering a takeout to have at home, I'm coming out to a restaurant so I have certain expectations. No-one came to check how we were doing until we'd finished and they forgot an item off my partner's order and when we pointed it out the person didn't even seem that apologetic and also it felt they thought like we were lying about it? They took ages to bring the bill as well (I genuinely feel like they forgot about us which was especially annoying because it seemed like the group right next to us had better service). ALso, when I made the booking they specifically ask if's for a special occasion to which I said that it was for a birthday and then they don't do anything when you get there? I thought that because they asked that they might've done something but if you're not going to bother to do anything for a special occasion then why bother asking? Maybe the Kings Cross one is better but I definitely wouldn't recommend the Bank branch. The food was good but the service was rubbish and if you're going to a restaurant you need good service imho and not...

*Top pick* - Ginger cake with poached pear Lively place in the new Bloomberg building complex. We were on the hunt for some late night pud and struggled to find anything open. After being halted at the closed doors of the Royal Exchange cafe, we were glad to find that Caravan was still open and serving dessert! It has a good selection of tea and cake. We had the pumpkin cheese cake and the ginger cake. The cheese cake was the healthy kinds with pumpkin seeds in its base, however it was too heavy after a few bites. The ginger cake on the other hand was extremely delicious and paired well with the poached pear 🍐 UPDATE - Went there again today for a quick bite and were greeted warmly by the staff. Their allergen menu was very elaborate and impressive (they even labelled dishes with sulphur dioxide!?). Being a cod fanatic I decided to take my chances with the 'curry' style cod served with chaat masala dal and lime pickle. For £19 a plate, I was disappointed with the fish as it was quite chewy and the portion size was rather small. The poached chicken salad and the pizzas were definitely better value! ⭐namobytes ~ little bytes of insight⭐ Their bathrooms have a shared sink area but what's cool and unique about it is that their hand wash is a scrub! Instant mini hand spa for clean and exfoliated hands 👏😊
