My first lunch here was here in 1996, thanks to my then boyfriend. Itâs a lovely beautiful grand establishment - lovely restaurant and entertainment rooms, the bedrooms are good as well. The club has conservative English traditions and virtues - I suppose. Itâs in the centre of London.
You get the feel of the âoldâ England inside when you enter the big hall with the swirling stair case leading up to the entertainment floors. A bit old faddy daddy, old furniture with its interior style - if you like that you will love it here. You feel part of the past glory of the empire. You dress up and itâs feels good. You will also feel the past - the narrow minds - that comes with the old English patriarchal establishments.
Itâs up to you to pick which one you want to cherish when you visit. Sometimes I love the âplaceâ and sometimes I donât. It doesnât change per se, its always the same - a grand old strict father figure- but your mind might change and hence I see it differently depending on my mood.
So enjoy it with an open mind and accept it for what it is. Itâs grande, great food, great rooms - for meeting friends and to sleep in. Itâs a bit pricy for the membership cost - but you then pay into being part of something old - United Kingdomâs passed and present traditions and style, so it might just be worth it all?
