Cavalry & Guards Club — Restaurant in London

My first lunch here was here in 1996, thanks to my then boyfriend. It’s a lovely beautiful grand establishment - lovely restaurant and entertainment rooms, the bedrooms are good as well. The club has conservative English traditions and virtues - I suppose. It’s in the centre of London.

You get the feel of the “old” England inside when you enter the big hall with the swirling stair case leading up to the entertainment floors. A bit old faddy daddy, old furniture with its interior style - if you like that you will love it here. You feel part of the past glory of the empire. You dress up and it’s feels good. You will also feel the past - the narrow minds - that comes with the old English patriarchal establishments.

It’s up to you to pick which one you want to cherish when you visit. Sometimes I love the “place” and sometimes I don’t. It doesn’t change per se, its always the same - a grand old strict father figure- but your mind might change and hence I see it differently depending on my mood.

So enjoy it with an open mind and accept it for what it is. It’s grande, great food, great rooms - for meeting friends and to sleep in. It’s a bit pricy for the membership cost - but you then pay into being part of something old - United Kingdom’s passed and present traditions and style, so it might just be worth it all?

Magnificent gentlemen’s club in the heart from historic London. HRH the Duke of Kent is the President “ad honorem” of the Club. A wonderful XIX Century early Victorian manor house. Only for members and clubs associated with this club. Splendid rooms, drawing rooms, dining rooms, tea room. Furnish with the best taste possible. His Highness Prince Alois of Liechtenstein is in the board; his wife HRH the Duchess Sofía of Bavaria is a direct descendent from King Charles I Stuart. His Grace the Duke of Norfolk is in the board as well (First Duke of England and first Peer of the Realm; a true devoted Catholic, which surprises lots of people. Almost feels like going back in time. A wonderful, unique establishment in a very nice part of the city. The service is excellent, the staff extremely helpful and the decor typical of the clubhouse it portraits. It is recommended you go there without children, parking is difficult so opt to tale a Bus or the tube.
