🚇 Hyde Park Corner 🍺 £7.00 Estrella ❤️ A pleasant but expensive Greene King pub. . The Rose & Crown is located on a quiet side street just off the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly. The nearest tube station is Hyde Park Corner which is a five minute walk away. . This pub is steeped in history and was apparently used by Oliver Cromwell's henchmen mid 17th century. The original name of this pub was The Greyhound with the present name adopted by 1763, this pub was rebuilt in 1889. . The pub has a striking facade with detailed stonework up the sides and around the upper windows. The decor here is traditional with lots of dark wood and brass fixtures and fittings. The seating is a mix of poser tables at the front and centre and low level seating at the rear. Around the walls are pictures of historical gentry and a couple of TV’s showing live sport. The servery is a good size so getting served is easy. Upstairs is additional seating and function room. . Now on to the beer, the line up was ok but all the cask was unavailable. I decided on a pint of Estrella, my pint was nice but cost £7!!! I was gobsmacked at this price point as I can’t see the justification. Earlier this day I visited The Goat Tavern (Greene King) which is a ten minute walk away and the same pint cost £6.50. I visited The Lord Raglan (Greene King) near St Paul’s Cathedral back in the summer and an Estrella cost £5.50! @greeneking_official this pricing is inconsistent. . The Lady who served was lovely and efficient. The atmosphere here was upbeat and there was a good crowd in. There was a large group Spanish ladies in sampling the British cuisine and a few day trippers dotted around. I managed to catch the first half of the Manchester derby along with a table of fellas in for the footy. . The @roseandcrownw1 is a pleasant pub in traditional surroundings and does a good job of looking after its punters. The beer price is ridiculous and just says “Tourist Trap”. Hopefully Greene King review its pricing here, you can’t justify selling the most expensive pint of Estrella in a pub in London. . ℹ️ Info correct on...
Read moreI can’t explain how extremely HORRIBLE AND DISAPPOINTING my experience at this pub was today. Got to the pub around 12:20 for a “famous” British Sunday Roast. Waited nearly an hour for a totally inedible meal to finally arrive at the table. Picture provided. Provided was, two very very small thin slices of roast beef that was so over cooked and tough I couldn’t even chew it!, no fluffy roast potatoes as advertised- they were cold in the middle and were definitely not roasted! The cauliflower cheese has a horrible rancid taste, the gravy is straight out of a tin of powder and the cabbage was overly charred (nearly black) on the outside while being cold in the centre (god only knows how that was achieved!). And the highly anticipated Yorkshire Pudding stone cold! Four tables, while I was there, complained about the very slow service, with some patrons telling me they were also tourist and had booking they feared they were going to miss (boat trips/theatre tickets etc!!!) I’m so very sad to say DO NOT go to this cute pub. I LOVE London and get here as often as I can, but OMG THIS was really really REALLY BAD. So very disappointing. Ps: I did not complain but rather just walked out as the poor staff were having enough irate customers to deal with! I even watched one poor young staff member having to walk outside just to get a break from the place. Sad for her as management has definitely let the customers...
Read moreJudge by yourselves: we arrived at ~19:00 for dinner and managed to find a small table downstairs. We asked for a table for dinner, and we were told they were super busy. I went ahead and booked online for 19:30, there were plenty of slots available. Came back to the bar, and asked to be seated for my reservation, and was told to walk upstairs to check. Upstairs there were several free tables. We moved up and started looking at the menu. The aircon was maxed and it was cold. We decided on our order. They didn't have fish and chips. We looked at the menu again. They also didn't have Ribeye or Pie. It was 20:00 already, and the room upstairs was closing at 21:00. They offered us to move downstairs and make our order there. We did. Turns out they only had burgers. We ordered burgers, scotch eggs and a plate to share. The food came, but they kept us waiting for a plate to share. One of the burgers was fine, the other was like a shoe sole. The waiters were nice, but overall it was an awful experience. Apparently, there had been a marathon and they have had a very busy day. They should have told us about the menu options upfront, and we would have happily gone elsewhere for dinner. Tables were sticky and music a bit too loud, as one can...
