Last night, my friends and I had the pleasure of visiting this charming wine bar, and what an unexpectedly fantastic evening it turned out to be! Originally, we had hoped to book a wine tasting, but since we made the reservation a little late, we had to settled for wine flights instead. Disappointed at first, we voiced our feelings to the lovely gentleman, Justin, who was working behind the bar. He told us, he is not a sommelier, but he offered to run a mini, ad hoc wine tasting for us. And let me tell you—what a stroke of luck that was.
Justin was absolutely amazing! He suggested a delightful range of wines that were not only interesting but fun. His knowledge was impressive, yet he carried it with such ease and warmth that it never felt pretentious. Based on our feedback, he was able to tailor the selection to our preferences, and he nailed it—each wine was a perfect match for our group’s varied tastes. So much so, that I ended up buying two bottles to take home.
What stood out the most was Justin’s ability to connect with the entire group. The atmosphere was lively and engaging, which is becoming rare these days when most places opt for the impersonal QR code ordering system. Justin’s approach felt like a breath of fresh air—genuine interaction and a personal touch that made the evening even more memorable.
To complement the wine, we ordered cheese and charcuterie platters, as well as some sausages, and everything arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. The food paired beautifully with the wines, making for a well-rounded experience.
Honestly, this was probably the best wine tasting I’ve been to in a long time, and the fact that it was all spontaneously put together by Justin made it even more impressive. My friends and I haven’t stopped talking about how great the evening was, and we’re already syncing our calendars to do it all over again. Highly recommend this...
Read moreA popular haunt for our office as well as others nearby it seems! For the most part, it's an upmarket gastropub slash restaurant in the back. It's underground and has an inviting catacomb kind of feel to it. The bar service is good, but the table service for the restaurant is far superior. The service is reserved but friendly, and attentive. The venue is mostly open, as well as separate rooms and bookable areas - with platters and bulk drink options that make it a great work drinks venue.
The prices are slightly more than reasonable for central London, but worth it for the food! Whilst most of the meals are good, they serve a distinctive sausage dish that is a crowd pleaser every time! The crowd is in fact quite varied, from young office workers to more senior clientele, though I find at lunch it's more popular with the pensioners strangely! I'd say great for after work drinks and nibbles, nothing...
Read moreBooked table, 13Jan15, for 6pm, arrived 6.06pm: 12 customers and 2 staff. Seated and given menus and wine list. Still no service after 10 minutes, so had to get up to find staff and ordered drinks and they arrived. After another 10 mins, I had NOT been able to order. Got up again trying to find staff, eventually found manager, Thomas Sweeney, with no jacket and looking 'ill at ease'. Asked for service, and he said he would arrange. Staff appeared and I ordered, then 5 minutes later the said Mr Sweeney, wearing a jacket, appeared and asked if we were ready to order. BLIMEY !! So this is DAVYS service: never again for me and I DO NOT RECOMMEND...
