A DINING EXPERIENCE SO POOR I'D RATHER REMAIN IN A LOCKDOWN.
It's the end of lockdown, London's (briefly) in tier 2 and me and my three flatmates are desperate for a bit of normality and a meal out. We head down to Greenwich and, regrettably, choose the Coach and Horses for said meal...
At this point I should say that I'm not a serial complainer / leaver of poor reviews - in this modern age I fully appreciate the detrimental impact a poor review can have on a business and as such this is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a bad review for a hospitality venue BUT as I love Greenwich and want other visitors to leave with fond memories I feel I should encourage anyone looking for somewhere to eat to avoid this particular pub (there are plenty of others to choose from!).
To keep it brief, the waits to order drinks, be served drinks and then order food were almost impressively long. Only after being served drinks and waiting 45 minutes for someone to take our order were we told that a good half of the already fairly small menu had sold out (not an issue in and of itself, but some indication of this before we sat down / were served drinks would've been helpful?). When the food for our 'party' of four did arrive, one meal was omitted entirely and one wrong. Queue another long wait so that half of us could eat. The food that did arrive was luke warm and could be described as 'average' at best. The side order of olives were presented in a pot of thick oil requiring fishing rather than picking.
If we were in a Weatherspoons it would've been a mildly disappointing experience, but when you're paying significantly more for your meal you'd hope for a...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I recently enjoyed a delightful Sunday evening roast at this charming pub. I opted for the pork belly roast, while she relished the beef roast. The flavors were exceptional, with the pork belly boasting a perfect crispiness on the outside and succulent tenderness within. The beef roast was equally impressive, cooked to perfection with a mouthwatering blend of herbs and spices.
The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience. The cozy setting created a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed Sunday dinner. We appreciated the flexibility of being able to walk in and secure a table without hassle. The staff was attentive and provided excellent service throughout our meal, enhancing the overall dining experience.
To kick off our evening, we indulged in mulled wine that perfectly complemented the hearty roasts. The combination of spices in the wine added a festive touch to our meal. Additionally, the pork crackling served as a delectable starter, offering a delightful crunch and rich flavor.
Overall, our experience at this restaurant was delightful. From the delectable roasts to the inviting ambiance and attentive service, it proved to be a memorable Sunday evening dining experience. We look forward to returning to savor more of their...
Read moreToday, I had an extremely unpleasant experience with this pub. I think the owner should know, as others reviews suggests this is usually not the case.
On Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 3:10 PM, I arrived at the pub with my parents, intending to have coffee and tea. When we entered, there was one waiter (a young man around 30 years old) who looked at us but did not greet us.
We sat at a table near the coffee machine, took off our coats, and waited to place our order. We waited for almost 10 minutes, but no one even looked at us or approached us. Eventually, we decided to leave, as it was clear that we were not welcome as customers.
As we put our coats back on and left, the waiter looked at us again but still said nothing. Complete ignorance from start to finish.
And by the way, the table was completely greasy with glass marks.
I have no idea what the reason for this behavior was, but I will never return to this pub again!
If the practice in this pub is different from everywhere else in the world, they could at least inform us and explain what to do and...
