right firstly if you have a choice between coya Mayfair and angel avoid angel at all costs and go to the mayfair brunch - 100 times better! It was my first and last time as this brunch due to the service of drinks.. we had to chase the waitress on numerous times and when we placed our order it took half an hour to arrive. when it arrived cos the time it took we would order another round which we were told we had to wait till our drinks were finished, we explained that we had been sitting there with empty glasses for over 20 minutes! Honestly compare to the mayfair one where alcohol and service was flowing this was not the case. The canapes and drinks at the beginning (first hour) was shambles huge queue at the bar and not one canape passed me. Again at mayfair this was not the case there were platters passing by and brought to us. The food was good (up there with gaucho brunch food) just a shame re the service. Lastly it was a friends birthday which I mentioned and was told a little cake would come out. Every other table received a dessert platter which had churros etc and a sparkler with that. We didn't. I had to chase a waiter and explain when we booked the booking team said this etc, instead they bought out a TINY plate with a small cake from the buffet dessert are saying happy birthday with a small candle. I called the waiter again like hello why no sparkler who bought it five mins later. We did not get the same as everyone else infact we got less which is ridics! Overall I would give coya angel a 1/10, 1 for the mains and that's it. starters desserts canapes drinks service chasing waiters - appaling!
Now to make things worse I checked my bank account yesterday to see I had been charged £100 by coya. When I booked the lady asked for a card, I explained that I wouldn't be using this card to pay as it was my friend who was organising it all etc. She stated that it is their just to HOLD the reservation and that she will send me a link which needs to be paid within 24 hours and can be paid using the correct card. This occurred and was fine. Two days later my friend called to add another two people to the booking which was finem the lady said you'll need to pay another £100 to which my friend said that's fine ill do from the same card I paid by etc etc. The lady that works there somehow used my card even though I didn't call up and I didn't pay for the initial deposit. This is ILLEGAL and FRAUD. How can an establishment like yourself use someone else's card without the permission of the person? I called and spoke to the 'manager' this morning as I was livid and the manager was extremely rude and stated it was my friends fault. My friend didn't even know my card was on the file so that's a lie. My friend was at no point asked if she was the cardholder or can I pay the card ending in ….? So moral of the story guys don't give your card details as they will use it without your permission which Is ILLEGAL and when you call them out on it they ask ok so what can we do...
Read moreVery disappointing experience for Coya compared to their other restaurants.
We had made a dinner reservation for a party of four at Coya Angel court on a Friday night and though the food was excellent as expected, the service level was very disappointing.
First of all, the initial table we were seated at was under a very harsh spotlight in an awkward position between their main room and side room. So we asked for another table, which was given to us rather quickly.
However, from there on the service was EXTREMELY slow: It took forever to get the menus, and then we waited for almost 15 minutes before someone took our order, and only after we had to literally wave to get a waiters attention.
Our waiter made a big show about the "coya experience" and how he would look after us, but after ordering our food, every dish took extremely long to arrive at our table. Also, being a party of four we naturally had a lot of plates (as all dishes are supposed to be sharing dishes) and our table was way to small to accommodate all the plates at some point.
Ordering a second round of drinks was just as challenging a task as ordering food - again we had to try very hard to get a waiters attention.
And finally, when we finished our main courses, trying to order desserts or tea took at least another 10-15 minutes before any of the staff took notice of us. Meanwhile, we saw how another table next to us was served faster, table cleared, dessert menus handed, and orders taken AND given hot towels prior to their dessert - all within the time we were still waiting to place our order. When the waiter finally took our order, I asked for a mint tea with honey. (Again, an eternity later,) When the tea arrived there was no honey... so I had to ask for it (and you may guess,) it took a very long time again fo the waiter to attend our table. I don't know if they had to make the honey, but it finally arrived at the table when I had FINISHED my tea.. or else it would have been cold!
When we asked for the bill, that was the only thing that was brought very quickly and so was the waiter with the card machine. Mind you, he didn't even bother to ask how our dinner experience was.
Needless to say, we were very disappointed of the overall experience. Paying close to £300 for dinner at this poor level of service is a rip off. Having been to other Coya restaurants before, we had far better experiences, but this one may very well put us off from going again, let alone recommending it to...
Read moreI had very high expectations for this place, and it started off really well. However, after the first dish, my excitement began to fade rapidly.
In the beginning, we were offered drinks. I decided to try a classic Pisco sour, and I must admit, the cocktail was excellent.
The waiter suggested starting with guacamole and corn tortillas, which I thought was a good idea, considering I was planning to go for a menu option that included three starters and one main dish. The guacamole was lovely but a bit too salty.
The three starters included a corn salad, a spinach, walnut, and goji salad, and portobello mushrooms on skewers. The corn salad (Trio de Maiz) was delicious but quite large for a starter. The spinach salad (Espinacas con Manchego) was tasty but had too much dressing, making it overpowering. The portobello mushrooms were not particularly interesting.
When we ordered the main dish, the waiter suggested a side dish, and I chose the Miso aubergine. We waited for the main dish for about 25-30 minutes, and when it arrived, I was left surprised. It was smaller than the side dish and didn't even qualify as an afterthought. The main dish (Trigo en Wok) consisted of spelt, squash, cauliflower, and fresh truffle, but it was essentially a spelt side dish with very little flavour. My partner ordered the salmon, which he found bland as well.
In general, I found the food to be one-dimensional, making it forgettable. Additionally, I felt that the service lacked finesse. I don't appreciate when the waiter addresses me with "Do you want?" instead of "Would you like?" It's just not good etiquette. Also, when one of the waiters brought the salmon dish, she mistakenly called it tuna. This indicates a need for improved staff training.
I wanted to try their desserts, but by the time I got there, I was incredibly full. I think they should inform customers about their portion sizes or at least inquire at the beginning how much they'd like to eat, as the portions were quite disproportionate.
However, it was a nice gesture from the restaurant to offer us two bowls of sorbets to celebrate our anniversary, as we chose to dine there for our special lunch.
Additionally, please note that if you choose to go during the City during lunch hours, it can be very...
