Firstly this place is gorgeous, really interesting interior like an American ski resort hotel, huge room, very cool.
The menu reads very interestingly whilst changing often so don't get too attached to anything!
We shared a few small things to start: oysters for happy hour @ £2 each, slightly stingy on the vinegar but fine otherwise.
The fried scallop roe really excited me but were sadly overcooked. The accompanying sauce was perfect though and with a touch less frying, would be an amazing idea.
The eel olive skewer was totally unbalanced in it's execution. The crab slider lacked bite and a tang/texture for a £10 bun.
The beef nuggets were perfection and excellent value for money, the very best they could have been.
The main course of Bone marrow pie was very weird in that there was shredded meat as well as very flavourful and well cooked mince meat. The pastry was excellent but we couldn't work out why there was 2 styles of meat, either way it lacked a wetness but flavour wise was very good.
The Sucking pig was a bit meh and a tiny portion for £36. The Bearnaise sauce was very good, the Peppercorn was the worst sauce I've ever had, so bland and so thin. Bleugh!
The mash was ok, the chips were one of the best things I've eaten all year.
Sticky toffee pudding was excellent but stingy with the ice-cream! Which was exceptional by the way.
Overall, despite the few things which were terrible, I would absolutely return for those chips and the definite potential...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Darby’s restaurant, and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that set the tone for the entire evening. The customer service was simply outstanding; every member of the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction.
Not only was the staff attentive and friendly, but the food was also absolutely delicious. Each dish was expertly prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the flavors were simply divine. Whether you’re a meat lover, a vegetarian, or have dietary restrictions, Darby’s has something to satisfy every palate.
One of the highlights of our visit was the fact that Darby’s is a dog-friendly establishment. Our furry companion was welcomed with open arms, and the staff even brought out a bowl of water for him without us having to ask. It’s rare to find such a pet-friendly environment, and it truly made our experience all the more special.
Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a memorable dining experience, Darby’s is the perfect choice. The ambiance is elegant yet inviting, making it suitable for any celebration, big or small. I can’t recommend Darby’s highly enough; it’s a true gem in the...
Read moreI've been here before for dinner, which was a really great experience and the space is lovely. However I'd recommend avoiding it for brunch. We stood waiting for someone to notice us for some time and had the same experience waiting to order. Staff polished glasses rather than acknowledging us and the service was nonchalant at best. It gave us the impression that they didn't need customers.
The pastries we ordered were nice but burnt. We had to scrape off the charred bits. A good staff member would have showed some concern.
The biggest issue though is the dogs. I don't think that dogs belong in a food environment anyway, but the experience was made stressful by the choices that were made. Rather than spread people out across the vast restaurant, they put everyone together so that large barking dogs were rubbing up against the back of our chairs. There was no consideration for the fact that some people dislike and are afraid of dogs. Also, who can have a peaceful Saturday brunch with all that barking? Worse still, one of the servers petted the dogs and carried on serving food without washing their hands.
The woman behind us was served the wrong food. And the breakfast menu is a bit odd - why put a whole loaf of bread on a dine-in menu? I really think you...
