Dashuo Restaurant Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional Chinese Fine Dining in London
For this year's Dragon Boat Festival celebration, my aunt - a 30-year London resident - insisted we try Dashuo, her preferred choice for important business dinners. While priced at £60-150 per person, the exquisite dining experience fully justified the cost.
Located near Euston station, the restaurant's understated facade belies its elegant interior. Our large group comfortably occupied a private round table, enjoying what turned out to be one of our most memorable Chinese meals in London.
Standout Dishes: Marinated Crab with Red Roe (£44) - Plump, briny crab roe with perfect salinity Crispy Sea Bass - Flaky texture with a subtle smoky aroma Pan-Fried Ribbon Fish - Expertly cooked using seasonal East China Sea catch, its natural oils creating a crisp exterior while retaining moist flesh Yellow Croaker with Preserved Vegetables - Delicate fish in an umami-rich broth Stir-Fried Crab with Rice Cakes - Fresh crab complemented by chewy, flavor-absorbed rice cakes
The kitchen demonstrated remarkable skill in balancing traditional flavors with premium ingredients. Service was impeccable - dishes arrived at perfectly timed intervals, maintaining ideal temperatures throughout our leisurely 3-hour meal.
Ideal For: Business entertaining Family celebrations Special occasion dining
Recommendation: Advance booking essential, particularly during festive periods.
Final Verdict: Dashuo sets the standard for upscale Chinese cuisine in London, offering authentic flavors, premium ingredients, and polished service that makes it worth the premium price point. An outstanding choice for discerning diners seeking an elevated Chinese...
Read moreWe used to be a regular since they first opened, but not anymore. This place has always been a bit overpriced. We last went to celebrate 2024 Chinese new year with some friends. Upon paying the bill, the waiter told us that I have to either pay by cash or by WeChat, claiming that their card machine is broken. I was shocked saying that I just saw the other customer (non Chinese) paying by card, and if you card machine is broken why didn’t you tell me in advance as I have booked the table quite a few days ago. I told them I do not have cash and I do not use WeChat wallet. He then said there is an ATM outside you can take out some cash. Clearly the card machine is not broken and he just wanted to force us to pay cash for obvious tax reason. I tried to argue but no success and do not want to be sitting there forever for a New Year’s Eve. We agreed to pay cash with 10% discount. We went out walked the block to withdraw cash and by the time we are back, we were then told by a waitress that they cannot give us 10% discount but we can pay by card. “We were told your card machine is broken?” I asked. She rolled her eyes at me and brought the card machine. What a horrendous experience! What a...
Read moreDashuo Chinese Restaurant is a gem for those looking to experience authentic Chinese cuisine beyond the typical British Chinese menu. The fine dining atmosphere is posh and sophisticated, providing a truly upscale experience.
The service is attentive and friendly, making you feel well taken care of from the moment you step in.
Every dish we tried was executed to perfection, with flavors that stood out and portions that were more generous than expected. While the prices are higher than most Chinese restaurants, the quality of food and the high-end dining ambiance make it well worth it.
Not for everyday dining, but for occasions where an elevated experience for Chinese food is what you're looking for, this is the place.
However, I am knocking off one star because they charge for takeaway boxes when you can’t finish the meal. It would have been better if they had informed us beforehand so we could order less or be aware of the extra charges. Charging for takeaway boxes for leftovers could encourage food wastage for those not wishing to pay for them, and the price for the boxes is expensive...
