Nice venue and bar. I reserved a table for 8:30pm on a Saturday as I know Saturdays can get busy and wanted to be sure myself and my group had somewhere to sit. I reserved for 3 people so not a huge amount. When we arrived there were no seats at our table, so we told a male bar staff member. He was extremely dismissive and just shrugged and said weâd have to find our own seats. Is this not the point in booking? We wouldnât have minded but the table was too low down and right in the middle of the floor for us to stand around instead. It was obvious a large group on the table next to us had taken the seats meant for our table. Eventually, we managed to get seats by going round the venue and asking for unused seats but it was irritating to not have anywhere to sit. However, once we were sat down we had a enjoyable night, the cocktails were really nice and reasonably priced! The two women working behind the bar were...
Read moreA tale of two bars. Like most places in the Shoreditch / Old St area, mid-week Jaguar Shoes is a friendly, comfortable bar perfect for relaxing in with friends over a few drinks. Come the weekend and you have to have a different perspective as it turns into a mĂȘlĂ©e of drinkers clamouring towards the bar. There is a basement level that gets opened up at such times but I definitely prefer lounging on the sofas upstairs when it's quieter. Drinks are on the expensive side but are generally good quality imported beers and strong cocktails, mixed well (beer ~ÂŁ4 wine ÂŁ10+ a bottle ÂŁ7-8 a cocktail). Haven't tried the food but have heard good things and what I've seen looked nice - mostly pizzas and pastas. I'll...
Read moreI popped into Jaguar Shoes on a Thursday evening and it was pretty buzzy. The doormen were refreshingly chilled out and but the staff perhaps a little too chilled out - it took quite a long to get served and for them to make our cocktails. However, once they arrived they were really tasty (slow gin fizz for me thanks) and the snacks looked great too. The decor looks like it changes regularly - when we visited it was pop-art style graphics painted on the walls and lots of laundrette props on the shelves. Very original and eye-catching. Downstairs they have a little cinema room which was a lot less noisy than upstairs. My only gripe would be that the toilets are typical Shoreditch toilets - i.e. avoid them...
